I just bought a 2003 LC w 107000 miles on it. I have a 2000 model with 150000 miles on it. The 2000 model gets 5w30 conventional oil but the previous owner of the 03 used a blended synthetic oil. No problems in the 00 model just wondering if I should change the 03 model and go with the conventional 5w30. Would it start leaking, what should I look for. Is it ok to go back and forth between the 2.

I"m no engineer but I've read where you should not change the type and viscosity of oils around ....if you do change stick with the change. Other things I've read say that going to a synthetic oil or fluids on a high milage truck can promote gasket leaks.

I'm from the old school, I run conventional oil in all of my stuff, except where the mfg spells out synthetic. I do change the oil/filter on my junk regularly....which I think is the most important factor.

I have debated going to a synthetic oil/fluid in the 5 speed i have in the LC, to make it shift a little better.

I know this may not be the answer you are looking for...

There are so many debates on this. I wish some scientist would just tell us what is the best oil to use.

I have always heard that switching to synthetic oil in an older engine is not recommended, breaking in a new engine with it and then staying with it is a good idea. The only time I've ran synthetic is in the gear box.

Sent from my detachment from reality.

I run synthetic oil in my 80. The small leaks have actually gotten better.

To clarify, it only had some small drips from around the oil pan. Now, they are just weepers no more dripping on the ground.

The PO had been running whatever conventional oil the local dealer put in it.

Even then there are hundreds of choices. I have been running Castrol conventional for years in anything I service myself. :meh:
