When I installed my winch, I stretched the synthetic line per the Warn instructions by pulling myself up a slight incline to a tree. I used it for the first time a couple weeks ago and this morning I pulled the line out to clean it off.

My question is how much tension do you need when you are respooling the line? I tied it to two spare tires and dragged the tires up my gravel driveway. Is that enough? Or, is that even necessary? It would be a lot easier to just walk the line out and spool it back holding the line by hand. I my mind, if you spool it too loose on the drum, it could bind itself when you use it pulling hard.

Once the initial stretch is done you can just wind it on under tension.

This is enough. Respooling it properly is good maintenance, I'd say you are good to go.
