I just ordered a Titan TW12000 winch with synthetic line. Titan is out of Delrin fairleads and Duncan could not remember where to tell me to look for one if I do not want to use the steel rollers. I have done a brief search(I don't have much time right now) and my search comes up with no Leeds. Any idea where try can be found?

googled fairlead roller poly
first one came up with something

Howdy! My rig came with a set of white ones that were supposed to be a prototype of a product for Slee, I think. Might check with them, even if it is not on their web site. Haven't really tried mine yet. John

Thanks guys. I totally forgot there was a winch section.

Why would you want rollers with a syn winch line?

Get a solid syn fairlead and call it good.

Personally I think rollers are better while the other looks better. Plus it's for a ARB bumper and it has that huge cut out and the rollers look best for this application.

rollers will eventually pinch your rope.

Which type of rollers have you been using? While I agree that hawse fairleads are better for most applications using synthetic rollers can be very useful when you have an ARB bumper like the OP.

If the rollers overlap in the corner then they wont pinch the rope. If they don't overlap then I would never run them with synthetic.

Alex, obviously you know what you are talking about. However, the problem is that you are dealing with wrong situations instead of perfect (or even moderately good) situations. There is no requirement to know how to use a winch. You just go buy one. LOTS of things can happen that are out of the ordinary. If you overdrive the winch a bit and get some sag, you can catch the line on the through bolt of the rollers among other things... I love winch rope, but it is not forgiving for misuse.

If you are just using replacement Delrin rollers on a roller fairlead designed for steel, there may not be enough overlap of the rollers. Either way, when things do not go as planned (that never happens right???) A hawse fairlead is a much simpler and easier solution.

Choosing a fairlead that may not be optimal for a given use because it "looks better" is not a great idea IMHO. Make a plate that backs up the fairlead so it does look right..

:meh:

Well I think the Hawse fairlead looks better and I would like to go that route but I am going for function not appearance. With the ARBs opening I do not see how the Hawse would work. However, I did think about having someone welds a plate over or behind the opening to make a more flat surface before I have the bumper powder coated. My concern with that is what would be the consequences of that while pressure is being applied as the winch is under power? Or, is there not that much pressure being applied to that area of the bumper?

a purpose made delrin roller specifically for synthetic rope should work fine.... I am not familiar with how the ARB opening changes things so would have to see it.

Bring it by house in morning as I will be helping ShermanFJ62 mount an ARB and winch on my old FJ60 in driveway if it is not raining too hard.

I spoke with Slee and they do not sell Delrin rollers. Christo also said he would not modify the bumper to accommodate the Hawse failed. I am inclined to agree and that could leed to other issues.

Brock,
What do you want me to bring by? I wont be getting anything until wednesday. EVERYTHING will be delivered then.

Ok, I have spoken with Duncan at Titan Winches and Viking Offroad(winchline.com) and both have said using the steel rollers are fine and that having to use Delrin rollers is an internet myth. Titan winches said they they use the steel rollers all day long in Australia and that for some reason the use of Delrin rollers is pushed in North America.
I am going to stick with steel rollers for now, especially when a company could have taken $100 of my money. Instead they told me I am good.
duncan did tell me that the only precaution that I need to take while using synthetic line is while using it statically. basically if I am using it to winch someone out then be careful to ensure the line is not rubbing against something causing it to fray.

I'm late to the party - but if you use steel just make sure the rollers are burr free, and make sure the rollers in the corners have significant overlap to keep your synthetic line from getting pinched or caught, that's all..
