im looking to improve articulation for my 87' FJ60, i have SUA OME suspension, and i wanted to know if i could buy some sway bar disconnects and where??
thanks,
mark

When I was looking several years ago I couldn't find one I liked. I also didn't come up with a design that I like that I had the tools to build. Some designs would stop the resriction on the upward travel but still restricted the downward travel.

Now I just take out one of the end links and leave the other one connected. If they are in good shape and not rusted it takes 5 minutes tops to take our or put back in. Works well for me.

You you find a good set of disconnects let me know.

Take them OFF!

A leaf sprung, especailly under vehicle dosent need sway bars.

I agree, espescially the front one. Spend the money on some nice adjustable shocks and control your ride with those...

I removed the front with no noticable difference. The rear is coming off this weekend for the SOA.

Roger doger. Junk those babies.

Boy, I really dont agree with that. The links make a great difference especially when you are loaded down with gear. The greater the lift the greater the impact of the links provided you increase the lenght of them. Figure out some disconnects or look into an adj air bag sway control.

You're FJ60 probably doesn't have a rear swaybay. I think the rear started with the FJ62. I run extened front links just for peace of mind on the road. Then I remove on link which allows the swaybar to be attached (to keep it from flopping around, this also does not limit the travel in off road sitiations. Then you can reconnect it for road use. Like I said befor it's less than 5 minutes. If you don't have time to reconnect it there just take it easyand drive back to camp and do it there. I usually disconnect it at the beginning of the weekend and don't reconnect it until I'm ready to drive home.

Jus cuz you are sending my the book dosent mean I cant bow up on this issue. Load your truck down with 1000lbs of crap and remove the bar, lift it 5" then remove the bar. The bar is a good thing in MOST situations, just not hard off road.

Im just teasing you guys.

Still want the book?

I was wrong abouth the sway bars. There is no need at all for them. I will never use them again. If, by chance, I am driving a truck with sway bars I will not enjoy or appreciate them. Furthmore, if said truck has AC, I will not use it no matter how hot it is as a reminder that I am not paying any attention to the sway bars. I will cut the sway bars off both of my 62s and grind the mounting points smooth then repaint them so it was as if they were never there.

Yes, I want the book.

David, I think you need to go further than that--I think you need to struggle with fellow drivers to get them to understand how petty and foolish it is to place your faith in sway bars, and if they don't see the light, cut their sway bars off after they have parked their trucks. Write to your congressman demanding anti-anti-sway bar legislation be introduced immediately. If that fails, go on a hunger strike. :D

Oh brother. You guys are are like abbot and costello, only bad.

I also drive SUA with an OME lift and 33's.. I put in alot of time on the roads and freeways of Los Angeles (with family, dogs, gear..) and I wouldn't even consider permanently removing my sway bars but, hate them offroad. I have in the past undone the extensions and tied the bar up with a bungie cord to keep it from bouncing around but have been working on fabbing some quick disconnects.

Ideally you'd want to remove the extension altogether but check http://www.off-road.com/toyota/cheaptricks/swaybar2/ for a "way better than what I have now" idea..

My 2 cents
