Putting a 2F out of an 83 FJ-60 in my 74 FJ40. Do I use the original fly wheel or do I use the one on the 2F? I plan on running my Weber 38/38 off the F on the 2F so will my intake and header off the F work? Suggestions? Also 2F has about 117,000 on it. Other then replacing some gaskets any thing I should look into before I stuff it in the whole? Plan on cleaning it up and making it look pretty before I put it in. Oh one other thing. The starter from the FJ60, will it work as well? Other then wiring differences I do not see why not. Thanks in advance, Dan.

I assume you have a 4 speed.... You can use ether Depends what your production date, If have you have early, keep the fly wheel & three finger clutch, later would be a diaphragm style and used the 2F flywheel. I would use the 3 finger style If you use It for off road and for daly driver diaphragm clutch & flywheel might be a better choice.

Headers should be fine you may want to pop the cylinder head off the 2F and send to your local machine shop to get freshened up and take a peek inside just for peace of mind ;)

I too, put a 2F from an '84 FJ-60, into my late '74 FJ-40. Been a few years back, but things I do remember...

It took me a weekend, that was rather broken, so it didn't take a lot of time.

I pulled the tranny/transfer out with the engine, and mated them on the floor. I'm not sure if I'd do that again, as they were very difficult to line-up that way.

The '84 2F uses a transistorized ignition, while the '74 was points style, however, that had been converted to a Petronix ignition. I looked for the transistorized ignition module, but had no luck. I ended up using the smaller F distributor with the Petronix, and a coil. I haven't had any problems since.

I used the motor mounts from the '84, but had clearance issues with the A/C compressor, which I wasn't going to use anyway, so i removed it , and clearanced what needed to for the Radiator brace with a sawzall. I know..not a great way, but that's what I did.

Since my engine was a late '74, I kept the FJ-60 Flywheel, and mated it with a diaphragm clutch to my existing 4-speed.

I think that's about all I can remember.
