To Me.. Holley gives no more problems than any-other carb...to each-his-own... is your fuel source clean? if not anything you replace it with will be same...

i've had a holley on mine as well...had the ocassional problem...but nothing that ever made me change it. i rebuilt it once...

if you want to, most people say go back to stock...an aisin.

i've got a '71 (and i think a '73 around here somewhere) that would be great as a core for a rebuild...shoot me a pm if you're interested

Since you already have all the holley stuff in place, I would try a Ford motorcraft 2 barrel carb. These are great carbs!

First of all, they have a holley bolt pattern, so your all set there.

Second, they have to be one of the most plentiful carbs made. Ford used these for umpteen years on a wide variety of vehicles. Should be able to find dozens (if not more) to pick from in the junkyard. They are all basically the same. Over the years they added a few more vacuum ports for smog stuff, buts that's about all. When I put one on my cruiser, I think I paid $10 for it and had a whole pile to pick from. Late 60's / early 70's would most likely be the best since there will be fewer holes to plug.

Third, they are simple. I am "carb challenged" and I can eaily work on one. It's so simple, it's scary.

Forth, they work great. In my four wheel drive club, there are four other rigs that have them installed. And not one of them is a Ford! One is on a Buick V6, one a Jeep 6, another jeep (not sure what engine), and another land cruiser (F motor). The reason so many run them (besides the things listed above) is that they run great offroad. Sure, you can change a bunch of stuff on a Holley to get it to run OK offroad. Or you can just put on a motorcraft and be done!

I'll second the Motorcraft. I've run one on my 2F for a couple of years.

The Motorcraft 2100 is about the most simple 2-bbl carb on the planet, and its larger brother the 4100 "shoebox" 4-bbl is right behind it for most simple 4-bbl.

High school kids can easily overhaul and fix these carbs. I know that from experience, as my friends and I rebuilt many of them as teenagers. Made pocket money doing it for other kids who should have done it for themselves.

The only way to actually ruin these carbs is to crank the needles in so hard you ruin the seats, or crossthread the jets, or if some overzealous "racing pro" drills out passages without knowing what he's doing.

Try a weber. got one on my 2f works good.took off my holley years ago.
