I've decided that the 31x10.5 Dueler AT's on somewhat offset rims was not what my 40 really wants. The next set of tires is going to be narrower and on the stock Toyota rims. I'm running stock suspension, 2F motor, 4.11 gears - everything mostly as it left Toyota in 12/78.

Going with a 31x9.5, my options seem to be Super Swamper TSL's, and. . . Super Swamper TSL's, which I know nothing about.

If I go to 30x9.5's, my choices become legion, and the BFG All Terrain T/A seems to be a very safe bet - by reputation at any rate.

Vehicle will be used mostly for hunting - drive 50 miles of freeway, followed by 20 miles of dirt road of varying condition. Not crawling or bogging by any means.

Also factor into this - there is going to be an FJ-60 power steering conversion in the near future.

So. . .those of you who have worn out a dozen sets of off-road tires - whattya think?

And for the love of Ivan Stewart, if anybody knows of another 31x9.5, please sound off!

My 34 x 9.5 tsl's work great for trails and mud but are a real PITA on road, hard to balance and get lumpy when they sit for a couple days(especially when cold) but they look cool. You'll be happier with the BF's in the long run, but chicks don't dig them as much. And if you have TSL's you can't hear what the chick next to you is saying cause they are loud, so that is in favor of the TSL's. I hope my wife doesn't see this because she can't figure out why I put boggers on the corolla.

BWAHAHAHAHA!

You would simply not believe the places you can get to with a 1978 Corolla station wagon. To this day, my dad and I wish he had bought a second one and mothballed it. AFAIK, it's still rolling around Northern California - probably working on 400,000 miles. Best little car in the world!

It sounds like, despite being the desired size, Swampers are not the all-purpose tire I'm after. The 30" BFG's are probably the tire of choice, but if y'all have suggestions, toss 'em out there.

Thanks!

Swamper Trexus? Not sure if they come in the size you want but they wear well
and have a decent off road tread.

No doubt go with the BFG all terrains, they do good for the offroad usage you are talking about, and do great on the road, the BFG mud terrains look tougher and also do well on the road and last a lot longer then the AT's. With the usage you talk about I would make sure it is a good road tire, good handing, good in the rain, and low noise (relative to other off road tires). BFG is the way I would go.

what about 7.0-15's?

I've been thinking about these on original 5.5 steelies Yokohama Y742S
