I currently have a Daystar spacer kit on my TRD shocks, while fine, I'd like to get a better smoother suspension system. Right now I'm at about 2.5" of lift. More than likely, it's either going to be Toytec Coil-overs (which I like) or a old man emu setup. My question is, if say those both come and are 2.5" can you safely add a 1.25" spacer to bring it up to 4"?

If you can, is the vehicle safe this way, or do you have to change anything?

Thanks

I figured not. I think I might just go with Toytec coil overs in the front, but no idea one what in the back...I want them to at least MATCH some what... >.>

I went with Sway Away and couldn't be happier.

From a more practical viewpoint, if you have more than 3" lift you can't reach the drawer at the bank drivethrough. :grinpimp:

Downey offroad makes a 3 1/2 inch lift with this type of set up and they claim to clear 34in tires with no cutting and 35s with minor cutting...that is the lift that i have been looking into a little more expensive then OME but seems to come with a lot more. Downey Off-Road Home Page Menu

My Sway away is adjustable starts at 3" and can go past 6" it appears. With the 3" lift I've got my Toyo 33's still rub in both wheel wells.

Downey dosen't really seem to make a kit specific to the FJ, but yeah. And in terms of rims..yeah...I highly doubt I'll have any rubbing with 33" the way I am now with the 16" trd rims.

I'm running my factory TRD rims...

Get the OME and be done with it, it rides great, plenty of lift, and you can get one real resonable.. its all ya need ...

Make sure if you are doing the front bumper, you go 886's up front. unless you want to replace them again. They will try and sell you the 885's and tell you they are fine, however most end up replacing them and going 886 after front bumper install.

Just my .02 worth, i have that ome and the ride is great, plenty of lift also.

OME is a great lift and very reasonable as far as price. I had OME heavy front and medium rear, but recently upgraded to the ICON long travel front coils, light racing jounce shocks, and light racing UCAs. The new setup is in another league with regards to handling, front end dive, bottoming protection, but you're talking about thousands vs hundreds of dollars. I still have the rear OME mediums with jounce shocks because I'm waiting for ICON to release their new remote res. rear setup.

If you have the paper, go with ICON. If you want to get a good lift but don't want to spend a bunch, go with OME (886 up front if you plan on a bumper and or winch). Adding the jounce shocks to any suspension will make a huge improvement on the trail as well.

One thing I was going to do IF I GOT ome, was ask them to paint the shocks black and the springs red. I'm very curious as to how good the Toytec coil overs are though...for 750$, that ain't half bad.

The Toytec lift is really nice too. Basically the same as OME. That would be sweet to paint the coils red. I wish Icon offered red coils. Blue or yellow could look cool on the right rig too.

Uh...how is the Toytec the same as OME? The shocks are COIL OVERS....

I'm pretty much set on them now. Didn't notice they they are adjustable from 1" to 3.5" of lift...nice.

Now I just need to find something that matches the back.

Toytec is the same as downy its not a FJ Specific front lift: from the toytec website (Fits 05-08 Tacoma trucks, FJ cruiser and 03-08 4Runner )

Uh...What shock is specifically DESIGNED for the FJ Cruiser? As far as I know, Icon, Fox, OME, Walker Evans, and so forth, are ALL universal, they may slap "FJ Cruiser" on the box, but it's the exact same kit that goes on Tacomas.

Btw those sway-a-ways look good, I just don't see the benefit of them over a toytec coil-over setup.

Icon designed their lift specifically for the FJ from the ground up. They will also customize your setup if you want. For example, they used a heavier oil and stiffer coils than they normally use to handle the extra weight on my rig.
