You have a LOT of reading to do on pirate, there arn't really ideal numbers, you have to read and formulate your own opinion. It becomes a large compromising game.

You are basically at the mercy of what is available to you space wise under your rig. You can design the perfect 4 link but when it comes time to start mounting brackets things change real fast.
