Might as well get this started now. Who wants to play in the snow this Sunday instead of watching some dumb football game? I'm hoping this storm has dumped some good snow in the mountains and it will stay cold enough through Sunday to keep it there.

i got a foot at my place out in e-mtns and it is currently 0.5 degrees... mine isn't going anywhere tonight. hope is good!

i'm in if its not stupid cold.

Funny, no matter how cold it gets here, I try to take myself back to winters in North Dakota. 20 below with a wind chill of 90 below and think this is a heat wave, but over the last 15 or 16 years back to this climate, nothing even close to that or what we had back then, accustomed to it here, could not even compare it to then.

So it's just me and John?

yeah maybe we'll talk some sense into people at the meeting tomorrow... shrug. i'm looking forward to it!

I'd like to go to. Let me see what the boss has to say. It's her Bday after all tomorrow.

edit: the boss says to get the hell out of the house and leave her alone. So, Isabelle, Riley and I are going wheeling tomorrow.

We have a spring on our land, and I want to develop it but need to see what it looks like in the winter so ice doesn't mess it up. We could go up there and at the Snotel site a mile or so away there is reported to be 25" right now. Anyway I will have to run this by the boss as well... It's up FR 103 to the pass, so could be challenging...

jen, evan and i are in... see you all at the N portal at 9am? :bounce::bounce2::bounce:

i will be on 146.400 (Ash and i call HDC 2) and watching megalink.

Yep, the gas station next to the Wendy's on the SE corner of 550 and 528 at 9:00. We'll head up to Cuba then East about 13 and a half miles on NM 126, then north on FR 103 for about 8 miles. Then we'll see about continuing on north down to Gallina or Coyote and coming back via US 64. Bring your chains!

John,
bring your cordless sawzall.

Steve,
bring your chainsaw.

I have a water leak and will be out of town next week so I have to pass on this one. I'll bring some maps to the meeting place though.

well we just got back... all had a good time. Marc and Ash will have to post pics since i forgot my camera again and borrowed Ash's for most of the run since i was in the caboose. we almost made it to Steve's property but turned around since it was getting REALLY slow and it was 2:30.

Ash:

You know if you need to borrow a chainsaw that Mom has three of them, right? I hope Kate can be so cool someday. ;)

Pictures! Pictures! If it's anything like the foot of snow we got today (and COLD), you guys had some fun. I had fun just driving the 60 between the driveway and the post office.

I'll try to get to my photos this evening.

I got my first experience using chains. Ali had a spare pair that fit my tire size. I was really impressed with the increased traction I got from them. The snow was so cold and dry, it was like driving in really loose sand. And I got the impression the ground under the snow was a solid sheet of ice.

I even got to pull a Chevy truck out of the ditch. He'd gotten about 1/2 mile up 103 from the 126 turn-off when he realized he wasn't equipped to handle the snow. While he was turning his truck around, he got stuck in the ditch. I got to try out my new cheapo D-ring adapter from Harbor Freight. He wasn't stuck that bad. He just didn't have the right tires to get enough grip and get out of the ditch. Giving him a little extra tug with my chained Hundy did the trick.

I have one too but since we were going to Steve's property, figured I'd make him do all the hard work :D

I'll upload the pics from the hotel tonight.
