I'm looking at some 33x12.5's to go w/ my BDS on my 62. It is driven daily, but I want some good traction off road too. Is there a Super Swamper that's even close to the road noise and ride as BFG MT? I'm guessing no, but just in case.

hmm what is the Brett all about, my name is Brett.

your swampers will go byebye very fast on a daily driver

I would say BFG AT's. If you go to the BFG website and compare the ATs vs. the MTs you will find that the AT's rate way better all around and are very comparable in the mud. I have to sell my 33x10.5x15 BFG ATs on black 8" rockcrawlers because I have too much room now with my lift. I will be picking up some 35x12.5x15 BFG ATs on 10" rockcrawlers now. I wish I would have known ahead of time, I have less that 5K miles on my 33's.

I daily drive my TSLs and they've got plenty of tread after a year, although I only drive it to and from work, which is a measly 8 miles. :D They definitely flat spot and run rough in the morning, especially in the winter, but my cruiser has never rode like a caddy in the first place, so it's not too bad.

how much for the 33s w/rockcrawlers? pm me if you don't want to post up.

my guess is that you will quickly come to dislike the Super Swampers for daily commuting, especially around town -- that's a lot of very aggressive tread that won't be too forgiving on the asphalt, let alone the high wear factor.

second the opinion on the BFG's -- the AT's go great and if you need a bit more, the MT's still hold their own on the road

I'm going to sell them for $500. That's about the price of the tire brand new but without wheels, mount & balance, nuts and shipping. I paid $750 for them to my door. I have between 4K and 5K miles on them and only one off-road trip on them.

ask Tommy on the board hes got a set (tjdiv)

I have a set of 35s for sale if fsusteve doesnt buy em.

What 35's do you have Lowtide?

dunlop, mud rovers..35 by 12.5 with about 2,500 miles on them. they are not that loud on the road, clean out well in the mud and grip like all hell on rocks, the only reason im getting ride of them is because they are toooo smalll i want 37's :)

But the smooth looking road-contact tread of the Thornbird looks like it could be pretty smooth riding...the question is, will they wear away quickly too?

Umm.... No.

They call them thornchickens for a reason. Don't bother.

I have heard great things about the Super Swamper Truxus M/T.
Goodyear MTR's are supposed to be great dd tires, but don't do well in the mud.
BFG MT's are a good all around tire, but has a weak sidewall.
I've got a buddy who runs ProComp x terrains on his stricktly dd and likes them. Don't bother with the ProComp MT's because they have a worse sidewall than the BFG's.

The BFG AT's are a good tire. I believe that if you run them off road they will frustrate you quickly. They are a good all around tire. They do their best work on the street and in the snow but are not made for any tough wheeling.

Well. I guess I'll chime in (AL you :princess: !!)

I run a set of 33X10.50X15's on my DD 4Runner and will be taking them off. I think the narrower thornbird is jinxed as a soft tire. (Besides, the 4Runner doesn't "need" them)

If you're wanting the "look" of a swamper over a regular looking street tire (BFG) I would definitely give a nod toward 33X12.50 Thornbirds. I have heard and read about several folks saying they're s***ty tires, but have to laugh. My drivers side 33x12.50 took a measley 2.5 ounces to balance!!! That's unheard of.

And just ask Micah (FJ62fun). He rode in my 45LV today with the 33x12.50's on it and couldn't believe how smooth it was on the highway. They ride absolutely great. They are a very low PSI tire (I run 20PSI in mine) and it rides smooooooth. I believe recommended pressure is 25PSI.

Wear and Tear. Do we even need to discuss this? Don't drive like an idiot and they'll last you just as long as any other tire. I have a good friend with an old bronco, running 35X14.50 Thornbirds and he's had them for 9 years.

The only other Super Swamper I would recommend for a DD is an SSR Radial. They are a good tire, but wear quicker than the Thornbirds I've seen. (my experience only....)

I'm thinking about getting a larger set (35's) on my 45LV. If you're interested in them (if you're nearby enough...which you probably aren't...) we'll talk.

Hope this epilogue helps. The Thornbirds are a fairly LOUD tire though. ALL off road tires make "the" noise.

Later.

Here's a link to pics of them on my 45LV and some off road shots. They do pretty damn well in the sand, etc...but cake up in mud if you don't spin them out enough through the slick s***.

FWIW: Don't buy Super Swamper LTB's they suck, and the BFG's aren't that great off road. These are Cruisers!! They need Super Swampers!!

I have a pic of 33X12.50 Thornbirds on a 60, I'll find it.

Here. This is a shot of my buddy Nicks on 33x12.50x15's. FWIW, he loves the tires and they ride great. (Been on a 2 hour drive with him in his 60).

So, there you have it. I own 2 sets, know of 2 other guys with DD's that run them. I think they're a pretty decent tire, and I did the way they look. Just like I dig the way these boobs look. (Pic for good measure). :D

Later gator...
