I am looking at running super swamper TSL Radials 33x10.5 on my stock 40 rims. Does anyone have same configuration and what do you think....

i want good off roading abilities, but also on road as well. I am tired of the 40 handling like a pregnant cow on the highway. (though power steering could help)

tks.

Don't they make those also in 32 x 9.5's??? I think the 33 x 10.5s are a little wide for stock though many here run that size in BFG ATs and other tires.

I personally would not run 33 x 10.5s on stock rims. If you want the swamper - get the 32 x 9.5s - basically about the same and the 9.5 width will fit the stock rim much better.

I'm running the 32 x 9.5 TSL radials with stock springs and slightly longer shackles (8" steel wheels w/ 3.5 backspace). The rear tires will just tuck under the fenders with about 1/4 to spare when compressed.

You might be OK with the 33 x 10.50 on stock rims, but you might have to do a little trimming on the rear fenders.

The tires are great, both on and off road!

I used to run that same setup with a 2" lift. It worked awesome both on and off-road. Those 33x10.50's are pretty skinny for a 10.50. I highly recommend them.

swampers or BFGs

Thanks Jason H. cool to see pic of those tires on stock rim. Well, my other option is the BFG MUDs which run more expensive, and the side walls are supposed to be weaker. I will not be doing a whole lot of wheeling but still want a tire that will perform when i do go off road.

anyone have much experience with BFGs... suposidly they are lighter, and they have improved on sidewall...

A friend ran the BFG mud tires on his 40. He couldn't pull them off fast enough. Sucked bad on the streets of Boston when it rained or snowed.

I have a set of radial Swampers on a Cruiser I'm rebuilding right now. They look great but I'm not sure how well they drive as the truck is still in pieces. I expect them to work great; very much like the other Swampers I have used in the past.

I would recommend the 33x10.5 BFG A/T KO but not a BFG M/T...

extra detail

I am also running 4" lift... :bounce2:

My advise to anyone buying tires is to check the manufactures measurments:
http://www.intercotire.com/site29.php
I've got the 32x10.50 tires mounted on stock rims and have had no problems. BUT look at the measurments, my tred width is 9.0
The 33x10.50 tred width is 7.9.
Also, check out the OD, the 32's are only 0.6! Thats why I chose the 32's, I wanted more width (I think they look better) and 0.6 wasn't enough for me to get the 33's.

I've got 34 x 10.5 bias swampers...but they're really 32.6 x 9.5.

Maybe there's a rubber shortage ;)

Edit 10-27-15
Those swampers never made it onto my truck. The truck lost an engine bearing soon after this post and I lost all interest in it until recently and now I've taken it from a 4" lift to a 2" and I doubt the swampers will work without scraping. So they're still in my barn, like new.
Sorry for leaving you hanging, Alan.

or maybe they shrank...

Hey Green FJ... what is the .6 you are refering to?

tks.

Look at the OD on their website. the 32's are only .6 smaller than their 33's but the 32's tred width is 1.1 wider.

cool Green thanks for tip. i will check that out....

Hi All:

"Honk," are you running the Swamper LTB 34X10.5 bias-ply?

Yeah, I have a set of them mounted on 'Rockcrawler' wheels that I haven't used much yet as they're for my perrenially shop occupying FJ40.

i am interested in these as well, how are they on and off road?

Hi All:

"Honk," what width rims do you have those 34X10.5 Swamper LTBs mounted on?

The InterCo website says the outside diameter should be 33.6 inches for that size of tire.

Thanks!

Is your tub cut? I'm looking into the same set up but don't want to cut my tub.

No, not cut. They rubbed a little on the inner fender in the rear, but not enough to worry about.

Hi All:

Humm!

What width rims are you using, Jason? What is the backspacing of those wheels?

I have been trying to figure out the tire rub problem on my FJ40. The wheels I have seem to have 4 inch backspacing, which is fine on the street but is too deep when off-road; the OME suspension on my rig flexs very well - when the rear tires "stuff" they rub really badly on the inner tub.

Alan

Those are stock wheels. 15x5.5 with 3.5" backspacing. They tucked up nicely in the rear without hitting the fender. On your wheels, you might be able to get away with a set of those 1/4" spacers to help clear the inner fender if it's a problem.
