Sunday in early October?

It's graded for about half the way. A stock vehicle would make it with little trouble. You could even take the 100 if you wanted. There are some fun options, and nice scenery as you get up in the mountains.

I've yet to run Desoto Mine...

But there are some pleasant runs in that area too that would be great for the stock 100 and end in Crown King at the days end...
Desoto is a really great run It may be worth the extra effort. I may be in for this one ( unless my truck ends up at Power) :whoops:

I am in for either Sunday right now. Post up some details. I need to get out again!!!

DeSoto is definitely higher on the 'difficulty' scale. Call it a 3.5, similar to Payette.
Not as many options either way, meaning you get what you get- not too many bypasses, not too many hard options. I'd be happy there too. :D Or, that could be yet another run- gosh, soon people will think we're wheelers if we keep this up.

Wouldn't want that rumor getting started.

Back when the Happy Hour Gang were first kicking the idea of a a new club around, I believe it was suggested we have at least 1 run every month.
We've got the cleanup this month, this run next month, Payette last month. Seems like it's finally happening. :grinpimp:

Well, I also talked to Tools about a run October 25 or Nov 1st on Sunflower Mine to enjoy the fall colors...I expect I to be out of commission during T-giving.

Finally? Some of us have been wheeling as often as possible. Unfortunately I'm short of quota for this year, only count 13 trail days for the year.:o IIRC it was '06 that I logged ~35 trail days, most/all posted here, the majority everyone welcome invites. So the question becomes; where were you, "Mr all of the sudden I'm a wheeler"?;p

I suppose you couldn't get away with: "I was kidnapped by crazed Amazons and forced to be their sex slave for the last 3 years....";p

IIRC, Kevin, you went to Moab 2x in '06 which would constitute half your year's wheeling:steer: in two trips - lucky dog:flipoff2:

I on the other hand, am rather shy this year with maybe 13 trail days myself:mad:. Only Broken Arrow and Table Mesa done outside the club.

I'm prolly tied with Carl. Thing is, I have no witnesses. I go out alone a lot. Well, when I can afford gas, that is.
But my solo ventures are on the Senator Hiway, Mingus Mtn, Coke Ovens caliber of trail, so Kevin prolly wouldn't even count those runs. :)
But now that I've done a couple basic mods and some serious PM, and I'm thoroughly convinced of the 80's abilities, you're gonna see a lot more of me on club runs. Sorry, that's something you're just gonna have to learn to live with.

OK ball fans-- how's Sunday Oct 5th sound?

DeSoto Mine? That sounds a little more challenging than the back road from Pleasant...often more challenging = more fun (until something breaks at least!).

Who's in?

PS-- I like the sound of once a month runs...it's not like there are no trails out here...

I'm in unless something comes up. I have a hard time planning that far in advance. :D

-Spike (It would have to be something REALLY important for me to miss a run with you guys.)

Cool-- hopefully everyone can avoid the common pitfalls

(needy wife/sick kids/phoning boss/buddy needs help moving/Birthdays/etc)

and we can get a nice little group going on the trail.

If this thread dies I'll get us going about 10 days out to try to round everyone up.

Looking forward to it!!

I have not run the Desoto Mine yet. Is it lifted rig required? I just brought home our new Toyota - a 93 80 w/ lockers. It's stock w/ 275/70 16 Michelin street tires.

Would I have to worry about the running boards & front & rear bumpers?

Just want an idea of what type set up would be a min. requirement!

PM me or post, let me know!

John

I would not run an 80 (or 100) with stock trim on DeSoto. And now that I've recently run the back road to Crown King, I wouldn't run that either. Damage would be likely.

-Spike

Thanks for the tip Spike! I definately don't want to get the 80 tore up. Either body or mechanical. I guess i will just sit out this one and watch for the next one. Perhaps Bulldog Canyon sometime? I really like that run - easy and a challenge here and there!

John

Just take your running boards off for the run.

And your bumpers. And your flares. And try to think of the new body lines in your rockers as 'trail art'. :D

-Spike

Spike might have a real good point about my 100's stock bumpers & boards just beggin' to get smashed on the rocks.

Take the running boards off and you'll be surprised what it can do.

Spend $800 on it and you'll gain a far better on-road ride and you'll be friggin' stunned on where it can go and with so much comfort and ease.

Enjoy!
