I tried the magnet route and it never worked well. So I ended up just removing the visor.

The new visor is more of a plastic material than the felt like covering of the original. I though the grey would be very noticeable against my tan interior but you can barely tell there is a color difference. If money wasn't an issue I would pay the $225+ for a NA spec tan visor, but for now this meets my needs perfectly.

Speaking about dirty sunvisors .. best method to clean then without destroy them .?
I recently opened up a visor on my truck during my interior remodel. The inside (backside of the felt/fabric outer) is plastic...which you'll be able to feel now that your thinking about it. I would say they could handle a rough cleaning without worrying about water soaking thru (had I known that before tearing off the fabric of one - thinking it would be easy to replace, which its not, by the way - I would have scrubbed them hard w/ soap and water to try and salvage them). Also, the inner foam/pad that gives it its shape appeared to be closed-cell as well (or maybe after 22 years the open cell foam aged to closed cell thru photosynthesis or whatever), so water shouldn't hurt it in any way if you somehow got thru to it (which could only happen thru a seam tear or something)...although I'm a few years late on this question, hopefully it helps another down the road who stumbles upon this thread via search.

I ended up shelling out for the new non-us visors from Cruiser Parts. I recovered by headliner and the A and B column pillars in gray, and didn't want dirty visors shaming me.
