Sun roof rattle

Hi gang, recent GX owner here. I've noticed the rattle when the sunroof isn't properly closed, and then I noticed another issue which is that I don't think I even know how to properly close the sunroof to begin with. :embarassed: Sounds dumb I know, my other car just has a dial I twist to a "close" position, in the GX however it's like I have to release the button just at the right time or I'm stuck fiddling between tilt and open a couple times. Am I doing it wrong? I must be doing it wrong..
You need to reset the auto close feature. I'm not sure exactly how to do it. I just got a new sunroof assembly put in mine at Toyota and now it opens and closes automatically after pushing the button for a second.

The sunroof on these trucks has 2 functions (tilt and open), and 2 buttons (forward and back). From closed if you press "forward" it tilts up, pressing "back" from the tilt up position closes the sunroof. From closed if you press "back", the sunroof slides open, from there pressing "forward" closes the sunroof.

If power has been disconnected, you may need to reinitialize the switch, which just involves manually moving the sunroof to fully open, and then closed positions by holding the switch, same as you have to do with the power windows after disconnecting the battery.

Thank you for this because my dumbass resorted to just using the key in the door to get the sunroof to close properly.

No, you're doing it right, it's really a shortcoming of the programming IMO. If you learn the exact spot to stop holding the button down, and do that like 3-4x in succession, then the button will go to the auto-close setting, same as your door windows. But then each time you disconnect the battery you'll have to make the button relearn this (same as your door windows) but you'll find the sunroof is 5x more difficult than it needs to be. Once you get the button to auto close the sunroof, you'll never want to disconnect the battery.

Forgot to post back, I _think_ I got it: I held tilt up until fully open and held the button a few extra seconds, then held slide open to close it and slide open and held the button for a few seconds.

It now slides fully open automatically with a tap of the switch, however to close I have to hold tilt up and it stops half-way, I have to again hold tilt up until it fully closes and it seems to stop at the correct position when properly closed.

To tilt up and then close from tilt up I still have to hold the button until fully open or closed, it does stop when properly closed.

I mean bruuh... 😅

Apparently the simillar range year IS250/IS350 have a sunroof dial, not sure if this means there's a chance for a retrofit so down the rabbit hole I go!
