I wish Id had a real camera with me..I apologize for lack of explanation - guess I'm used to my retired sailor throwing weird jargon at me. As we were pulling away, I noticed the sundog did indeed appear on both sides of the sun at an equal distance- one of the brightest I've seen!

Weirdest thing I ever saw, on a full moon down in Biluxi MS, I guess you would call it a moon dog. Same thing, only with a full moon. I went in to get a camera, came back out and it was gone.

I tried to take a pic of one (sun dog) I saw in Nov., but it didn't come out too well.
 
The moon dog is very common up north or at high altitude... Used to see it in the mountains back home all the time and in the desert but if I dropped in alt it would disappear
