Has anyone fished or camped at Summit lake up in north west NV (just up from winnemucca off of 140 at the quinn river crossing)

Im just wondering if you can camp there since its an indian reservation....

here's a map of where its at. Summit Lake Reservation: a Civil in Humboldt County, Nevada

Hey Matt. I've been through it a few times and last I heard, they were going to fine people for trespassing. There was also talk of not allowing the transport of firearms through the reservation. Of course my info is dated since this was while I was living in Gerlach. 6-7 years ago. There are some really beautiful places right on the eastern boundary of Summit Lake res. Off of the reservation. I say error on the side of caution.

A buddy and I harvested an antelope off the res but close by. We still got a little harassed and we were perfectly legal.

if camping is restricted, the surrounding country side is almost all wide open BLM, and there are nearly unlimited camping ops. playa, a dozen springs, soldier meadows area (b&b if your interested, i think they rent camp sites too), high rock canyon, granite range, etc.

you might call out to the folks at soldier meadows, they will know whats going on out there...

cool, thanks guys.

Im leaving tomorrow for my archery antelope hunt, and figured that would be a convenient place to camp, but it looks like ill just avoid it since its not worth the risk. Im not sure what the road is like up at knott creek, but I dont want to spend a lot of time getting down to my hunting areas before light.

Unlike Pyramid Lake, and to the best of my knowledge, you can not camp, fish or do anything more than cross the Summit Lake Indian Reservation.

I'm not sure what happened after the gate fiasco last year but we (Jack, Darcie and I) rolled right through SLIR last month without issue and without seeing any gate and/or no trespassing signs.

I wonder if there was some legal wrangling with respect to closing off traverse via this trail/gravel road after the SLIR locked the gate and made a big deal out of it last year?

However there is, just to the east side of the reservation fence/property line, a wonderful meadow to camp...right turn down a spur trail just after this sign...and just beyond the stream crossing shown below.

ok, ill avoid the reservation for sure then.

I went scouting up there a few weeks ago, but i didnt go near the lake or res. I took the quinn river crossing way through leonard creek, but this time im going to go up to denio and then down from there.

wish me luck!

Dan posted pics of the spot I was talking about. I'd go up through Gerlach, jump on the playa road to soldier meadows and that way. It's the easiest most direct route.

If you are looking for a lake in the area, try Dufferena Ponds, or Catnip reservoir.

SLIR -- I've always tried to avoid it, but they cannot confiscate you're guns if they are packed up and you stay on the highway.
