Alright, time to mark those calendars for summer trail rides. We’ve got a full summer planned with a club sponsored run each month. As always, these are just the club sponsored runs, so if there’s a trail you want to run that didn’t make the list, anyone is welcome to start a thread and get a run together.

As we get closer to each trail ride, we’ll start a thread with more detailed information.

May 17-18 - Ringing Rocks

We’re starting the year off with a trip to Ringing Rocks, while we wait for the snow to melt off the higher elevation trails.

June 14-15 Bighorn Canyon / Pryor Mountains

This is a new one and a bit of an unknown, but we’re excited to explore a new area and do some camping. If anyone has any good intel on this area, let us know!

July 10-13 Expedition Overland “The Big Thing”

This isn’t a club event, but it will be worth checking out!

The Big Thing

July 19-20 Chrome Mountain

This one gives us the chance to get over 10,000 feet, and check out some mining areas.

August 9th 40s Only Run with @90WT

Matt’s annual gathering of 40s doing 40 stuff - check out the planning thread here -

August 16-17 Goose Lake

Always a highlight, high in the mountains above Cooke City

Sept 27th Whitetail Reservoir

We ran this for the Relic Run last year, and it was a great time. Some rocks, some mud, some deep water, and ends at a big lake.

I did a day trip over the Pryor Mountains in early July '23, was a blast: excellent views, quite a bit of mud and water on the trails. Spent 11hrs on the trail from air down to air up, I lost a sway bar bracket, my friend in the 4Runner lost a sway bar bushing, we both ingested water into our intakes. Both rigs had to be winched out of mud and we rescued an OBS F350 that was buried to the axles.

I can share a detailed route if that would be helpful.

That’s some serious mud! Shoot me a pm with that route if you don’t mind, looks like a good trip

PM sent. Tons of little tracks and trails along the south side of the Pryors, I’m not totally sure which ones we took in some places but sent the general route. Definitely an area worth exploring further. The desert-like area to the south of the mountains is also very nice.

I'm back. Just retired. Count me in for Ringing Rocks. Also, I can scope out Pryor Mountain with anyone else that wants to join me from Billings.
@WreckDiver1321, you up for it?

I have been gone for a while but I am back now. As your prior 406 Cruisers Public Lands Coordinator, are there plans to participate in the OnX/Toyota trail revival/clearing project in MT this year? I don't see a project listed yet on the website.

We were looking into it

we have some ideas. I'm gonna get back on this now that i have a bit more free time after tax season. the idea of corporate sponsorship sounds interesting as long as its not a big dog and pony show.

If it means a bit of funding to, for instance, rebuild a rustic bridge, then I could see it as being useful.

I think I'm in for this entire schedule!

I'm very familiar with the stuff around the Pryors, have done that many times. I prefer going at it from the south, the Wyoming side. There's some great little side areas to check out and the terrain gets very desert-y. There's also a cave to stop and see that has ice in it year-round. Also a wild horse herd. Well worth the stop.

Chrome Mountain is a cool one. Not too difficult or technical, but a fun drive with tons to explore, and the scenery is awesome.

@406Camper when you wanna go?

@WreckDiver1321 how about the first weekend in June, say 6th or 7th?
