My rig is 2010 and the display has gotten dimmer over the years. I can barely see anything during bright sunlight. Even worse, there are no guidance lines or audible warnings when backing up. I really want to keep this a long time so I'm willing to maybe invest a couple grand in an OEM upgrade or nice aftermarket replacement. At a minimum, I need a better LCD display, even if it's mounted on dash/windshield and camera with back up lines/grid etc.

The only good backup system that is like OEM is Brand Motion for rear traffic and MSM, but it doesn't come with a display.

You should take a look at the Garmin offerings - here's a nice bundle for about US$600:

Garmin backup camera and outboard GPS

The bonus is the display is a crackerjack 7" full function GPS with all the bells and whistles, including free lifetime map updates.

Worth a look, IMHO.
