Suggested best bang for the buck axle + locker upgrade for fj55?

I have a nice FJ80 locked w/ 33's but have a bug for an FJ55 w/ 37's and SOA, I love my lockers so would want some for the FJ55

What axle w/ locker would you suggest?
Best bang for the buck, strength and reliability are my biggest concerns.

Best bang for the buck = 14 bolt welded rear and D60 front or built stock axle with all the upgrades, Long's, ARB, etc.

If you want to stick with an offset Toyota axle then cheap and strength don't belong in the same sentence, especially under a full bodied 55 on 37s.

80 axle would be sweet, but would take lots of fabrication and would be expensive. for those reasons, i don't have them. i'm building my 71 with 35s and fj60 axles. they widen the stance quite a bit, plus are still toyota, all that's required is to outboard the front springs. from there, you can stick a used aussie or lockright in for around $150/diff

Howdy! I have been running a LockRight in the back of my Piggy ( on 35's ) for over 10 years with no problems. It even survived a snapped pinion gear. The ratcheting noises and twitchy steering issues that some folks mention are not much of a problem in a big wagon, especially if it's full of junk like mine. The 37's may be pushing a bit, but I think that mostly depends on gear ratios, power plant, and driving technique. I like mine enough that I added one to the front a few years later. SEARCH around on this list and you will find several discussions on the good/bad of running double autolockers. As mentioned, I recommend Longfield birfs and inner axles on the front, and I would add PolyPerformance axles on the rear. I also recommend anti-wrap bars on the rear, and attention to steering geometery on the front, but then that is two more SEARCHes. Everything you want to know (almost) about FJ55s is available farther down this list at the Piggy Preservation Society. John
