Unfortunately, I've had zero luck finding an engine locally for the past couple months. Therefore, I'm relegated to searching online.

Using www.car-part.com, sort of a junkyard search aggregator, I was able to find a couple. Luckily I had the foresight to research reviews on the companies selling and they were abysmal. Tons of reports of customers either not getting what they paid for or parts arriving in horrendous condition.

So I turn to you, 'mud. Has anyone had success buying online? Or know of a reputable junkyard that will ship for reasonable rates? Or am I missing a potential avenue for purchasing entirely?

Any help is appreciated.

It's possible they just arent' completely up to date (or I'm bad at the internet), but I don't see one listed in the FZJ80 section at the moment. I'll try giving them a call tomorrow, cheers!

Is your engine not rebuildable? If it is I would check your local machine shops about getting it rebuilt.

It died pretty tragically. There's a giant hole in piston 6 and the debris didn't go quietly. My plan is to get something in it and running while slowly rebuilding the original in preparation for the Wits' End turbo kit.

You need a FSM. Go over to trollhole's section and download the 94 FSM. works for the 1fzs with minor changes in 95+

I have 3 good 93/94 engines for sale right now. Out of obd2 engines at the moment.

People want a fortune for used engines.

Car-part is just a search engine for junkyards. Each junkyard usually gives a warranty.

I would not be worried about buying one. Just do your research.

If you buy one from someone, you can still use car-part as a price reference

engineworld.com $1750 for a sub 60k mile Japanese Imported Engine. Drop on your accessories and u are off and running. Quite a few local shops in the Bay Area use them and have good things to say about their engines from what I’ve read. Not sure about freight to SD but worth a look for that low of a miler.

On car-part.......
I would be very wary as a lot of boneyards simply lie on mileage. No point unless u can go there and see the engine before it’s pulled and verify miles on odo of the crashed rig. many of the all toyota boneyards in sacto area have em in the yard before engines get yanked.

As I emailed, that’s irrelevant, and easy to work around.

My mistake. I replied before I saw your email. I could have sworn I read at some point that there were bigger differences than just the oil pans. Thanks for clarifying.

They were the reason I actually started this thread. Literally HUNDREDS of messages of them lying about: mileage, checking compression, delivery dates, etc. Sounds like they often ignore phone calls and emails for months, then charge a 25% restocking fee when people finally cancel the order.

Wow. I am amazed at what people will do to make a buck. Unless you can scam for millions, the amount is not even worth it (not that I condone that either but if you are going to do it, do it well!). It can't be fun having to watch over your shoulder all the time or who may walk through that door.

Anyway, best to your search E.

I thought you had to also pull the timing cover to change out the spacer also?

I have a motor from a 95 that is in a parts truck I am parting out in Central WI - I basically just want the axles from the vehicle to put in a buggy. 200K on motor - Rig is junk (rust, dents, bullet holes), but it runs like a top and you could drive it before we pulled it in my shop. Not exactly next door to you, but somewhat geographically located.
