Hi All,

I turned up the stereo the other day and noticed that the subwoofer in the 3rd row left side panel is blown - it sounds like crap.

I found the Toyota OEM replacement but it is $285 at partznet. Has anyone replaced the woofer with an aftermarket unit? Any suggestions?

Thanks.

The only efficient way to upgrade is to use the factory wiring as inputs to a seperate amplifier and new sub box. I did this mod and repowered the factory sub and it still sounded like caca. I doubt changing the factory sub to a good aftermarket part would improve the overall sound although there are several aftermarket manufacturers that make woofers that will fit in the stock enclosure.

Do you know who makes a replacement sub and what dimensions it is? Crutchfield doesn't even mention the sub so I'm not sure what I need.

I did not pull it apart yet. I was hoping to have the new sub ready for install when I take the panel apart.

Can anyone confirm that the woofer size is 5.25" in the 2003? Is there one or two?

So I pulled out the subwoofer box on my 2003 LC yesterday. It is a huge assembly but it only holds a single 5.75" (measured diameter of cutout) woofer. I think this size falls under the 6.5" standard category at Crutchfield (they don't offer 5.75"). Either way, there is enough room to enlarge the hole slightly if needed.

Question: The OEM sub has 2 connector sets (4 wires). I think this means it has 2 voice coils. Crutchfield does not offer any 6.5" subs with dual voice coils. Does anyone know if I can just use a single voice coil sub and leave the second wire set in the LC unused?

How deep is the enclosure? Is there enough room to hook in a second sub using the 2nd wire set?

There is room for two small subs but now you're talking about doing fiberglass work to create two openings to properly support everything.

I found a 6.5" subwoofer with dual voice coils by Bazooka. I will probably get that and be done.

i do know the jl audio 6" sub does not fit... its too deep for the enclosure..

i just bailed on it and got a jl 12" in a box. much better and i don't really look much space as the angle of the box fit behind the 2nd row and it also fit behind the 3rd row when in use.

sweet! I've got a JL W6 10", which is apparently better for techno/electronic music then the 12". I love it.

at my local wal mart i found myself a sub woofer enclosure for 30 bucks that fits right behind the third row seat perfectly and fits a 10"sub.... LC owners can wire this straight from the stock sub woofer or like me add a aftermarket amp because i have a aftermarket head unit as it would be too hard to try to wire up the stock amp that is located in the rear...

Just yanked mine apart. The sub box is sealed. How do you get it open?
