Any reason not to join the two hard lines underneath with a short length of hose? I've done just that although there is a nice kink in the hose now. Is that alright for a temp fix?

I've seen where people "delete" the rear heater that way, but they usually join lines under the hood. Is that because the hard lines are rusty or is there some other reason?

i dunno about your 62, but i'd think that people join the lines under the hood so the hot coolant is not still circulating in the cabin.
Tom has a ball valve in his 40 to shut off coolant flow to the heater in the summer time b/c the heat still transfers to the lines in the cabin when the blower is not blowing air over the heater core.

just a guess though. i dont see why you couldn't safely join the feed/return lines from the rear heater with a section of hose.

Check with BK or Chris. They may have something.

I'll have to check if it still has it and if it's good. I'll try to get out there tomorrow.

No drill holes in it.(that I know of) I did not get a chance to pressure test it Yesterday I'll do that tonight. One of the hard line was rusted out so I had to cut that soft line. But the the other soft line is ok.
