Okay, an embarassing question. After years of procrastination, I am draining and replacing some of those vital fluids many of you do regularly. The fill plug on the trans is a real pain (4 speed) and it looks like I need to go buy a pump or something to refill it. BUT, I understand you can also just refill it from the cab up top. Do I just pull off the rubber shift boot and dump it down there? Or do I need to dismantle something to get there?

unless you want to remove your carpet I would really just get the fill plug out.

You will be a lot better off in the end. And you are gonna need the pump for your axles/tase anyway..

Why for the tranfer and axles? I just did the transfer case, no problemo, I took the skid plate off. Seems that everything is pretty accessible on the axles....

Oh, and teh carpet is coming out anyway!

it is real easy to over fill the trans if you don't have the fill plug open. I really would not recommend doing from the top without getting that fill plug off. That way you don't need a pump (only $6 at napa), and you don't overfill the trans.

You can fill the tranny from inside the cab, I do on a regular basis since it just goes faster than the pump.
If you remove the 4 10mm bolts that hold down the rubber shift boot you get to the shifter spring, push down on the spring collar and turn counter-clockwise to release the shifter and pull it out. Then there is a big ol' hole in the top of the tranny to dump fluid in.

Get a 5 gallon bucket pump and you can change all the fluid fast. Also a 5 gallon bucket works out to be cheaper. I just stick it in the fill pulg and then sit next to the cruiser and pump until I see it starting to seep out and then put in the plug.

Also I would not overfill it cause if your seal is going between the transmission and transfer case then you will not have any extra room to take some fluid from the transfer case.

Excellent. Thanks for entertaining my question guys. I'll be finishing up tommorrow morning.
