I know this is a dumb question but I know low gas lights are programmed on different cars to come on at different times. Since I just picked up my cruiser I'm not very familiar with when I need to worry about filling it up after the gas light comes on. I was on a level surface with my gage just a tick below the 1/4 mark and the light stays on all the time. Do the needles on these go below E or do they tend to run out right at E. I know I should just fill it up and move on but I was just wondering about it. Thanks!

Mine about 5 gallons. Don't pay attention to the needle knowing this.

That was what I was wondering. My old pathfinder light didn't come on until there was about a gallon left. It seemed off early in the cruiser according to the gage. All relative I guess.
Moderator please move to tech talk.

On the 4runners the gas light blinks when it gets really low, like after driving around on E for a while. Has anybody seen the 100's fuel light blink?

when my fuel light comes on i have about 5g left, but when it gets wicked low my GPS screen defaults to the info screen and tells me actual miles i have left before empty. 03

My light comes on with 5 gallons remaining in the tank. My guess is that Toyota designs their vehicles to go 60 miles with the light on. My X Runner has similar range with its light on.

Makes sense...close enough to 100 km.

Hmmmm I've ran mine down pretty low and never seen the low fuel light...

Exactly 25 gallon fill after coasting into a station with the engine stumbling.

the :princess: drives our 100 as her DD and her commute is only 3 miles one way, so i guess she USED to regularly push it with the light on. well, one day she got to see exactly how far she could go after the light comes on...and she pushed it just a little too far :whoops::bang:
lucky for her she was less than 50 yds away from the pump when it sputtered and died on her. she didn't tell me until several days later. i didn't ban her from driving the 100, but she is definitely no longer allowed to let the low fuel light come on.

as for miles after the light, she said the needle didn't quite touch the "E" but guessed it was around 50-60 miles after the light came on.

even if you know exactly how far you can go past the low fuel light on a vehicle, i wouldn't risk it. the older the vehicle gets, the more stuff collects in your fuel tank, then running the fuel down to the sediment level just ends in clogged fuel filters or fuel pumps. i ended up doing that in my old Datsun 720 - ran the tank really low which resulted in sucking up some sediment in the middle of a turn and killed the fuel pump.

Well that would explain why I have yet to see the low fuel light. The most I've put in the tank so far is 20 gallons.

Just last week I checked my 2006 LC gauge. With the needle on the Empty line there was 3 gallons left. When I fill it all the way the needle never touches the Full line.
