swapping wires on my 96 and the end of the boot peeled off on #6. having a heck of a time retrieving it from the hole. any tricks? thanks, Chris

Hemostat's with a slight bend in them works like a charm.

I did that once and vowed never again. Got a set from the Matco truck at work.

update: i had to run a hole saw to grab the boot and rip it free. i wonder how long ago it broke off, and was just ignored by the po's service guy. thanks for your help.

Another method that worked for me was using a heavy piece of TIG wire (coat hanger should work as well). Measure 3/4" on one end and make a 90 degree bend. I sharpened the tip before Making the bend. Think large dental pick. Place the wire in the tube and once you feel it hit the boot rotate/twist the wire so that the point digs into the boot and pull out slowly.

I had two particularly stubborn boots and this worked for me on the second try. I had previously tried for over an hour using the plier and glue methods.
