Morning! My 77’ has been having issues for months and I am stumped. It has been dying when I coast in neutral or engage clutch to shift but quickly comes back in gear. Fires right up at Cold start in the morning but once I press on accelerator, it dies.

I just replaced the Dist/ignitor with one- in-all unit with new wires/plugs and properly gapped. New Weber carb that was built/tuned for my 40,

I appreciate any thoughts you might have.

Happy Saturday!

Did your issue begin before, right after, or sometime after the new dizzy & carb install?

Just to be clear, Charlie was referring to the “accelerator pump” inside the carb, and not the fuel pump.

Hi all.

Problem was happening before new parts.
LCS in Austin installed the new dizzy so not certain of timing.
This morning it started right up and I let it idle for about 5 minutes. It was idling a little high like I would expect and once I pressed accelerator it immediately died. Started again and within a minute of idling it started to die and I pressed accelerator and it came back but once I let off the gas it would stumble and die unless I accelerated again.....fuel pump looks original and or maybe vacuum leak somewhere???

Vacuum leak at base of carb.....spread modest amount of high temp caulk on gaskets and got a better seal. Also thoroughly cleaned both base plates until shiny before reinstalling.......what was the saying about doing it right the first time????
