We took a ride over 88 Friday. The gate was still locked on the Blue Lakes road (deep snow just past the gate) and there was deep snow at Kirkwood. I didn't think about it until after we passed the Maint station road so I didn't drive up to the trail head.

BTW the beef stew at Sorensen's is killer.

Is that more snow than in past years in that same area?

From what I am hearing it sounds like the snow on the Rubicon may be late in melting this year.

Given that every time I look west at the Tahoe area there is another storm dropping snow it may be the melting part is only half the problem.

No s***! Mt. Rose got some accumulation over the past 24-hours! I'm thinking I should, after trying to get up there all season, take the dogs up for a little kick and glide session!

Gate one is now open on Blue Lakes Rd, but two more gates are locked before the entrance at Lower Blue Lake. We need some 80 degree days.

Who the F is this guy posting up in here!?:flipoff2:

Did you get that blue bruiser started yet!?
Nice to see you back amongst the rest of the cruiser world my friend!

Hey dudes! I haven't gotten to the cruiser yet, I have been tying up some loose ends with school and finishing some other crap. I am eager to do some maintance stuff to my 60 and get out with you guys on Deer Valley. Anyone doing Rubithon, it might be fun this year?

Dylan
Not doing Rubithon, but it is tempting this year.

We are doing a club Rubicon run on July 12th 13th meeting at Wentworth on the 11th. You know you are always welcome on our club runs.

I was on top of Elephant's Back yesterday and there is a s*** ton of snow up there.

:D

Red Lake/Forestdale road probably has 10 feet of snow at the pass. It's gonna be awhile it melts off...

Glad to know that Im not missing much of the good wheelin yet this year!:D

Doing a little snowboarding up there?

We drove back from CA yesterday, based on the flow in the Yuba River the snow is melting fast in the mountains.

The club rubicon run, is that wagon friendly? I have only been on the rubicon(rubithon) once a few years ago as a passenger. I know they had some wagon runs which I would figure would be more appropriate for wagons lol. I would like to do this at least once in my truck. One of those things I would like to see my truck go through.

Yes and NO to this question.
Wagons are a LOT of work (at least for me) getting through this trail. Then taking into consideration youre going with a bunch of FJ40's...
My first time through was with a wagon group. It was hard, but the group was GREAT, helped me through and had a great deal of understanding of my NOOB-ness to the trail. Additionally, they went the more "wagon friendly" routes. I went with BBCNN last year, and it was NIGHT and DAY difference based on the fact there were a bunch of 40's.
It was that run that made me decide to sell the 60 and get something smaller and lighter...I now have a 40 Im building!;p
Just something to consider.

Keith

Of course you are right. But, I have had 3 differnent 40s and I am not going back there. I have become far too spoiled in my LX ;p. Well, I will go back to dreaming about taking my truck through there just once. Maybe one day. For now, I am content looking at my pictures from my one trip and all the countless others people have posted.

I would suggest you make your first Rubicon run with the guys on the 80's cool mailing list. Those guys know how to spot the 80 series through the whole trail, on the trip Chicago is talking about the only damage I recall was one busted tail light.

Anyone been up to Blue Lakes road and know if it is open?

D...I think Kevin and Bill were heading up there.
Might wanna check with them.
