So, this deserved its own thread. So, randomly on the way home from taking the family to breakfast my instrument cluster lit up like a Christmas tree. "Oh great, the damn MAP sensor thing again" I thought. NOPE. Nothing seems wrong and there are no decernable issues outside of my idler pulley that needs replacing.

Get this, I checked for codes, and none were found. That's right, no trouble codes were found. So...what gives?

What software/hardware are you pulling codes with? ABS/Traction related will light up like this... along with emissions but those codes are detected by everything..

Do you have a Techstream installation setup?

As mentioned on another thread I just posted about my warning alert (explanation point in a yellow triangle), I may try just disconnecting the battery and see if that clears it.
You may want to try that.

If nothing 4wd is engaged automagically, whats current battery voltage?

Just have 4H set and didn't use any other features like center diff lock. I'm at 14.0-14.2V when running and 11.9-12.7V when off. I have a brand new OEM alternator and a new battery so it's not a battery issue.

I don't have tech steam. I agree about the braking and emissions, that's why I'm puzzled.

This is my code reader. It's a good one.

Good idea.

With some limited searching I think that reader is primarily powertrain/emission focused and likely can’t read codes in ECUs outside of that realm

TS or OBD Fusion/Link will get you codes though

Don't have either nor do I have the extra $$ at the moment to get one. What sorts of codes would be outside of the realm of this reader?

Would spark plug related issues be outside of this reader?

I did want to mention the center diff and 4LO lights are flashing and not steady.

*Edit*
Ok so I can hear the 4LO kick in and the center diff when activated beeps as normal. I pulled the battery cable and left it off for a minute to reset it all and the lights are still on and or blinking.

You reader would be focused only on these area. Generic OBD and Engine/AT. Some screenshots of OBD Link/Fusion.

I've never done this but there are some built in diagnostics listed in FSM. I've flipped the OBD connector image because that is correct orientation when you look under the dash.

This could determine if ABS/VSC issue.

This is just full document from FSM minus the codes already posted.

Thank you.

I'm thinking about seeing if my local mechanic has tech stream and having him check for faults. If he doesn't I'll look in to this with the above info.

I've got some frozen stuff in the yard so I could pretty easily test the ABS LOL.

So the lights are coming on and going off every few ignitions. I noticed that I don't feel the ABS kick in. I tested it going down hill in the snow and nope, ABS is not activating. I don't feel the brakes doing it's thing when ABS is supposed to activate.

Would an issue with ABS show up on the code scanner I've got? I always assumed it would. Probably some kind of sensor issue.

All I see is powertrain and emissions in the owner’s manual and reading generic OBD codes that all ~’96+ vehicles should have. This does not include ABS systems.

From what I have seen.. these standalone readers would take you through a wizard that would start would with Make and Model if full vehicles scans could be performed by the device

You could try the built-in I posted above
Good to know. I think I'm going to go ahead and get tech stream as a Christmas present to my self. :D
