Strange clutch issues (PICS)

Below are some photos of my clutch that i pulled out of my '86 Landcruiser BJ74.
The clutch has always been funny (activated at about 1 inch from the floor). I have replaced the master cylinder and the slave cylinder to no avail.
So i pulled the gearbox (off for a rebuild) and found this:

Notice the wear on the fingers of the clutch plate >>>>

What does this tell you? incorrect installation?
It appears the thrust bearing has been sitting on the clutch plate wearing it out, and then possibly pushing in to far? pushing the fingers onto the clutch disk?
Would this explain the way my clutch pedal felt?

Also, while pulling the gearbox, i found various random bolts in places and some missing from the bellhousing etc. Looks like there has been recent work done...
Does it look like it has the correct clutch release fork?

Never touched a 70-series, but I know in a mini-truck, that would indicate to me that the clutch disc was installed backwards.
 
Broken springs in the disc are age-related.

The pedal in the vehcle is probably not adjusted correctly and is causing the clutch release to travel too far OR an incorrect release bearing was used OR the pivot for the release was adjusted out and the clutch release arm is moving too far OR the wrong release cylinder has been installed.

It is normal for 70 series clutches to have a very short throw at the pedal. The clutch will feel like it's releasing quite close to the floor but make sure you check the freeplay and adjustment at the pedal with the FSM specs.

Wear on the pressure plate fingers is normal.

Gday all,

The Thrust bearing was fine, replaced it though.

I have just finished re-installing the gearbox and new clutch, it all went together pretty well.

I have an issue though, when i put the slave cylinder on, it automatically pushes hard on the fork, therefore pushing the thrust bearing hard up against the clutch plate fingers already.

I have checked to see if it is the right one, and it does appear to be (according to the online EPC) (SEE PICS BELOW)

I looks like it's all stock, but i dont like the way it pushes up and there appears to be no adjustment on the rod or anything.

Opinions? Ideas? Is this the same for others?

You need to adjust you clutch master cylinder <-> booster freeplay. I had this same issue. There's a thread, but that's there's not much more info than that. It's pretty easy to do.

Water and Mud on Clutch

If you allow me, I´ll use your post to ask another question related with clutch, there´s going to be a trip from Bogota to Puerto Carreño, is about 2.000kms in 5 days, there´s going to be a lot of water (we expect 300 kilometers at 1 meter deep) and of course a lot of mud.
A friend of mine is preparing a FJ62 and a FJ40 and he is going to install bonze disc on the clutch, is that the better option for the mud and water problem? If not, what is the best option?

It is a self adjusting clutch release cylinder, and light pressure on the release arm is normal.

As I mentioned before, you need to check your pedal distances and pedal free play etc. according the the factory service manual.
