I need MUD's input to judge the potential demand for a storage solution for your trailers, FJ40s, etc.

The original use was for periscope storage inside the turret of a US tank. The box is ~25 year old new surplus and made of steel and is very stout. The box is not waterproof, but I believe it could be made very close due to the precise tolerances of the lid to body gap. My plan is to use it for items that don't require 100% waterproof storage such as: wheel chocks, bottle jack, lug wrench, spare parts, repair tools, hitch accessories, ratchet straps, tarp, bungee cords, leveling blocks, etc. If I have anything that needs 100% dry storage, I will put it inside a waterproof bag/box before it goes in the storage box.

I'm not sure it is big enough, but it may work as a battery/electrical box if you use a fridge, solar panel, water pump, etc.

As the pics show, it has two latches. I may bolt or weld a locking hasp on mine when I get around to my M416 build.

I think the box works and looks best mounted to the left (driver) side in front of the fender of a M100, M416, or M101-CDN 1/4 ton military trailer.

The outside measurements are 19" long, 7.5" wide, and 10" tall. Boxed, it measures 19.5 x 8 x 10.5 and weighs 18lbs.

The box also fits well on top of the rear fenders of an FJ40. It fits easily between the vertical tubes of an OEM roll bar.

If I can get enough interest, the price will be $60 plus actual shipping from 39110.

Please reply with questions and if you are interested in a Surplus Periscope Box.

I was able to source 12 of these boxes. If these sell, I may be able to get more.

Researched multiple shipping options and FEDEX Ground looks to be cheapest. Expect something between $13 and $29 to the 48 contiguous States. I am open to MUD-Ship possibilities and have connections all over the SouthEast US.

Cost will be $60 plus actual shipping. Payment accepted by PayPal or money order.

Eddie,

PM sent.

I’ll take one. Dimensions should fit on my TC3 Bantam. PM sent as well.

PM sent with total and payment info.

Shipping was $18.14 to north Michigan.

FEDEX says around $34 to Blaine, WA 98230.

Totally worth it!

Lash,

How difficult do you think it would be to add some bulb seal trim around the inside of the lid to help add to the water resistance? The boxes look great and I am definitely passing the word about them.

WanderinWhitlows,

These boxes have a very tight fit between the top and sides. Also, the latches apply strong downforce squeezing the lid to the sides. As long as you use or plug the 4 mount holes in the bottom and back, I think you will be in good shape.

Above, @wngrog said, "I have driven mine all over in the rain and it's still dry inside."

Thanks for passing the word! Sales are slow but steady.

Yes. Still have some left.

Google search shows a 40mm ammo can to be 17 X 6.5 X 10.5

My box is 19 X 7.5 X 10 but has the one angled corner. I'd say the internal capacity is close. The important difference is the way the lid opens on mine. I don't think an ammo can would be very useful mounted where most have/will mount my box. An ammo can lid would not open very wide due to hitting the upper portion of the trailer body where it angles out. An ammo can on the tongue in front of the body would be very useful.
