With my 80 and my 100, if I connected the SG while the truck was off, it would pull power but would not move past "connecting", since there is no data coming from the port and ECU. Even after starting the truck it wouldn't pick up the data signal. If I connected it after the truck was running, it would cycle on and off just fine. Two different trucks, two different SG units.

Perhaps a difference in SG firmware.

Or maybe a setting within the unit? Probably worth a call if you're into getting it corrected, they seemed more than willing to help.

And sorry for the slight hijack Rob, but hey I guess we're adding a little value here after all.. my goal is to have this always plugged in, no re-connecting required.

I leave mine always plugged in and never an issue with connection.

The owner of Linear Logic will take care of you. He's a good guy. Pretty sure his name is Mike.

I'm not saying you have to reconnect it each time, just the initial connection. With mine at least if I connected it before the truck was on, it would stay in "connecting". If I hooked it up once the truck was running it would connect to the data feed and then I could turn the truck on and off without issue.

Oh, ok.. that makes me feel better, thanks for clarifying. Looking forward to my new circuit board!

Well this is interesting. My new board showed up tonight, along with a brand new cable, and new copies of the user manual & quick start guide. Turned out to be fairly straight forward- figure out how to disconnect the ribbon for the screen, unplug a screen plug, and separate the button keypad. I should be able to get it all back in there...

But check this out: in comparing the two boards, I see 3 distinct differences. Are there any others?

1. the old board has 4 "brass rectangles" that lie on top of a couple circuits from the connector, see the upper left area. I can't see that they're really doing anything, so perhaps that's why they were omitted?

2. there's a crooked thing right at R37, towards the bottom of the old board. I'm guessing this is my culprit.

3. the old board is also missing some sort of other doodad.. its location is circled on the right side, just to the right of R13. What's puzzling though, is I didn't circle it.

Now to get to work on putting the new board in, see what happens...
