Yes I cut all mounting brackets off minus the top bolts. You need to fab up some support brackets like mentioned in a post above, use small angle iron. Tomorrow I could post a picture.

I've been looking at doing this for the better part of a year, and I finally pulled the trigger. Very happy with the results!

The taping and eye-balling beforehand took much longer than the actual cutting it off. A couple of quick passes with the flap disk to smooth things out and a blast of hammered finish black paint and voila!

My :princess: was shameless in heaping praise upon my grinder artistry. I believe the exact quote was "Gosh- it really doesn't look all that ghetto!"

Now my brother and I will be sticking our heads together to weld up a skid for the AC drier and some added support for the new bumper shape.

It looks like a pretty simple job, I may just steal the idea from Bumpit Offroad's tube bumper. Mike built a nice little cage around the AC drier to protect it on his bumper, and I found 2 nice bolt holes nearby that should lend themselves nicely to the task. Getting tired of waiting for someone to get a relocation kit to the manufacturing stage- this should be easier.

All thats left now is to get a HF winch plate installed with a roller fairlead and I'm good until I hit my first tree :D.

 looks great!

Thats exactly what I am planning on... Winch mount between the frame rails.

I'm going to pick up some .187 plate today and start boxing in the bottom and add some support for the wings. I'll figure out some sort of skid plate and AC drier protection at the same time.

man those look way better trimmed up!!!

i'd love to see a pic from sorta underneath, how does the bottom look?
it seems 'easy' to weld on some angle, maybe 1"x1"x1/4" to add a little bit of structure to it, the stock bumper is dang flimsy from the factory, losing the break at the bottom would reduce strength to about nothing.

My plan was to make a new pair of brackets, and build a tube bumper under the factory skin. Already have a winch on a winch plate under the frame rails...

Here's my harbor freight winch plate and 12K winch installed. We're just getting around to building some ac dryer protection off of the winch plate. The bumper mounts were reinforced by triangulating the bumper mount brackets to the frame with a piece of sheet metal.

The bumper is a little too flimsy to bother with much reinforcement, but it will do until I can pony up enough dough for a Bumpit Offroad tube bumper. The trim job worked out to be the perfect height for the fairlead without modification, but it does expose more of the winch than I might like.

Not a bad guess for waiting 2 years to get the winch mounted :-D

Here is my trimmed front bumper. The center is also cutout for a winch. This is a HMMWV winch plate that was flipped and redrilled to mount to the LX. hydraulic MM fits great.

Did you put rivets along the top of your bumper or is that bolts?

Unfortunately, not mine... But what mine is aspiring to be. That is actually for sale on ebay right now. Maybe you can ask the guy that posted it?

Oh ok, thanks. Im looking to do the same thing to mine, I don't do heavy off-roading and I like the look of it.
