I have completely stock '89 FJ62, it needs new tires, I bought it about 6 months ago. I figured since i drive mostly on road with some off road and wet/snow conditions and have gotten stuck in mud twice, i should invest in some solid ATs either, Pirelli Scorpion A/T or BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO. What tires would you recomend and what sizes would be best, 31x10.5 or 32X11.5 or even 33X12.5???

Thanks

from your description, 31s should be fine and fit very well on a stock truck. as for tires, check out the yokohama geolandar AT+2. treadepot.com had a great price on these not long ago. great tire and you can find terrific prices. you might look at the toyos also.

btw, there's a set of geolandars for sale in the 'for sale - parts' section - 33x10.5s, which will fit, for $350 with a new spare BFG long trail.

With a stock suspension that you are not going to upgrade, I'd go with the 31s.

Any taller and you get into slow starts and gear searching around town. 31s look good and are plenty of rubber for what your talking about useing your rig for. some of these guys get stuck with 37' swamp eating mo-fo tires..mud just eats trucks.

31s look good on stock 60/62 rigs, very practical size. Do the search thing, only negitives I've read come up when guys raise the rig then they do look small. Stock they fill up the wheel well nicely. imop

well on my 60 i have a set of 33x9.50 bfgs and they seem to fit very nicely and look good. Possibly a little narrow looking but they look fine.

33X12.50's are too wide for your stock wheels, and won't fit the truck w/out a suspension lift.

There are lots of posts on here about tire selection. It's a very personal process, and there is no right or wrong choice, but there are lots of options. That said, I bet that if we did a poll on tire sizes on stock 60's 31X10.50's would be a very common choice. Fair to say you can't go wrong with this choice - plus there are lots and lots of brands/models available, usually at good prices.

As mentioned above, some run 33X9.50 too on stock trucks. If you like this look, it can be good too. Fewer tires available though.

Regarding the conditions you drive in...it's hard (impossible) to find a tire that will work well on road, in mud and snow/ice. Consider an AT tire, but carry chains to use in bad mud. Get the tire siped to improve snow/ice performance.

31 x 10.50's are fine. On stock rims they will be a little narrow though.
Here is mine:

stock springs, 15 x 8 rims, 31 x 10.50 all-terrains (Multi-mile Wild Country TXR)
The tires are supposed to be good for 50k, but at 2000 miles a year, they may rot off. I like them a lot though and they were less expensive than the mainstream brands.

I like my 32x11.5 KO's on stock rims. Not too noisy on the road, either.

I run Michelin LTX M&S 31 x10.5 R15LT on stock chrome wheels and the run out great. I have a '90 FJ 62 that is completley stock as well. There is very little speedo difference and there is no noticeable power loss........gm

i ran 32 11/50 15s now im running 34 10/50s with no rubbing. stock springs
