Does my LX450 have a torsion bar? I know the 470 does but I cant find anything that google is throwing at me to say if the 450 does or not.

No you do not have a torsion bar. You have two coil springs on top of front axle. Torsion bars are for IFS (independent front suspension) like the 470, 4Runner, and newer Land Cruiser 98 and up.

Exactly as he said ;) A torsion bar is simply a coil spring that has been straightened out and laid flat, with a load attached to one end. Only an independent axle uses these. Coils are WAY better off road, and the solid axle design is way easier to modify for more lift and travel, and handles off-road obstacles much better that IFS..

QUOTE:
Torsion Bars:
Instead of flexing or compressing, a torsion bar absorbs energy by twisting. One end of the torsion bar is fixed firmly to a vehicle's frame, and the other side links to the vehicle's control arm. When the auto runs across a rough patch of road, the up-down energy flows into the torsion bar, which then twists. Because only the one side is mounted firm, the torsion bar will only rotate so far before it spins back in the opposite direction. Torsion bars are primarily used on front-end suspensions, and are found on all types of automobiles.
