After searching the posts here on this issue I went ahead and swapped the Fuel Pressure Regulator on my 3FE. Pretty simple swap for a pricey part! Anyway, the truck fired up like it has been then after a minute it died. (It has been doing this for almost a month by the way. )
Before I changed the FPR it would fire up and run a minute then stall. Then I could atleast crank it and have it run a couple seconds before it stalled again. Now that I changed the part I cant get it running for any time at all.
Is it possible that I introduced air into the lines and it just needs to run the fuel pump for a minute??? Im at a loss, things are getting worse instead of better and my truck is becoming a driveway decoration.
Thanks guys

If you have already posted for this problem on another thread, you should add a link to this thread so we can see what you have already done besides swap the FPR, otherwise, it will be the same thing all over again. That said, the first step should be checking for ECU codes.

Um...whats an ECU code?? How do I check that? Sorry!

The only addition from the other thread is:
Problems started when I let the daily driver sit for 2 weeks, never had any problems before that. Went to start it after 2 weeks of not driving it and the stalling out problem started. The FPR is the first thing Ive changed based on info in a thread from Yooper that sounded identical to my problem.
Thanks guys

Check for vaccum leaking hoses and valve cover gasket leak, egr gasket leak. Mike

Cool, Im heading out to give all this a try.
Thanks guys.

Okay, heres the latest. I changed the fuel filter today, FPR yesterday and still no start.
I checked the ECM codes and got the following:
2-1: O2 sensor (blah blah)
4-1: Throttle Position Sensor
The Haynes says to use feeler guages to check continuity and if not in specs, then rotate TPS until proper continuity is reached.

Anybody had any experience with the TPS code??

Thread on adjusting the TPS:

https://forum.ih8mud.com/60-series-wagons/273855-fj62-3fe-idle-problems-finally-fixed.html

One of the posts also has a link to download the Factory Service Manual (FSM), which will be more helpful than the Haynes book.

In addition the the Fuel Pressure Regulator, I also replaced the Fuel Pulsation Dampener because it had fuel stains around it, and the O2 sensors as a maintenance item. If you wind up replacing the O2 sensors, the rear most sensor will be a nightmare unless you remove the front carpet, and then the transmission cover. Then you can easily get to the O2 sensor nuts with a long extension. The O2 sensor connector is also right on top of the transmission. You might as well replace the shifter bushings, and linkage grommets and bushings while you are in there. Doing so removed all slop in my shifter, and the shift indicator actually indicates the gear I'm in.

And if you can get it running long enough, check for vacuum leaks. When a guy with four fj62s says to check for vacuum leaks, I'd do it.

Mike,
I visually checked all the hoses and around the valve cover. everything is at least connected. None of the vacuum hoses look to be dry rotted.
Anything more in depth that I should do with regard to vacuum leaks?? Probably so huh?

To check the TPS, you are going to have to get the FSM and a Multimeter to check OHM's The FSM describes how to check the TPS using a ohmmeter and you then adjust the TPS by rotating it until all of the diff. parameters are within a range listed in the FSM. I did it, and not only does my truck idle better, but it shifts better too. It is not that difficult of a job, I think I loosened my throttle body to have better access to the actual metal leads on the TPS. Good luck.

Ive gotta go get feeler gauges apparently, so once i get those i can start. I sure hope this works cause if it dont, Im gonna push it off a cliff!!!

Well if you have read this lengthy post you know that I have done the following to fix my stalling 62:
1. Replaced Fuel Filter
2. Replaced FPR
3. Checked diagnostic codes
4. Checked the FPS (all connections reading exactly where they are supposed to)

So I still have a cruiser that wont start. It will crank but now it wont even turn over and run. Prior to replacing everything, she would atleast run for a couple minutes before stalling.
So the problem has gotten worse.
Im up for any suggestions you guys have. Ive gone back to basics now, Im gonna check the ignition coil, distributor, anything that would keep it from even running for a little while. Almost like no fuel is getting to the engine.
Im at a loss...

Have you opened a line to visually confirm you're getting gas? Pulled a plug to visually confirm your getting spark?

Hadnt thought of that. I know its getting fuel at least to the output line of the fuel filter because I had to tighten it up due to some leakage. I will check the line at the FPR.
Thanks for the suggestion!

Thanks Chris, I took the line off the FPR and dry as a bone, not one drip came out. Im gonna start back tracking down the fuel lines in search of a leak.

Little late posting this, but I got the Cruiser running again! The fuel pressure regulator was the problem! After a fuel filter, diagnostics, a lot of not so nice words and it was the FPR. If I had just changed it first like one of the posts in the FAQ section said, I would have saved a lot of aggravation. This thread is proof that this forum has got just about every problem licked!
Thanks for all the help guys!

Yeah, that is confusing! I left out a big part of the story!! I found a fuel leak at the FPR...a bad one, so I pulled the new FPR and found the brand new O ring was broken so I took it back to Advance and they gave me a new one. Slapped that on in and she has been good to go ever since!
Sorry, that was a pretty important part of the story!
