The power antenna on my 2001 LX will not extend fully. It only comes up about 4" above the retainer ring.

It was replaced about a year ago when the car wash folks broke it off. Since then until recently it worked fine.

After removing the retainer ring I was able to extract it using brute force as the electric motor was resisting my attempts all the way.

Thorough examination of the antenna and the nylon cable shows no missing cable tail, broken or missing teeth. I put the antenna back with the cable teeth facing forward and it still will not extend beyond 4".

Has anyone had this problem and if so what was the solution?

Sounds like it needs some silicone spray. The motor kicks off if it takes too much force to extend or retract the antenna.

uhm, have you messed with the switch on the dash? You can extend it, or lower it to about 4" tall. The radio remembers the setting when you turn it on/off.

Turn on the truck, turn on the radio and push the UP on the antenna switch, should be just to the left of your clock/ext temp display.

There is a plastic spring that has something to do with the antenna moving. The spring on mine broke about a year ago, Lexus replaced the spring and its fine now.

This should be in a *sticky* FAQ. It would have saved me buying the new replacement antenna part. sigh.

Search is cool. I had this antenna problem, found this 6 year old thread, and "fixed" the antenna with a simple push of some buttons.
