The PO put in an aftermarket HU with a premade harness. The HU was fully functional, but there was no sound to any of the speakers except the crappy subwoofer. I ditched the HU and purchased an OEM unit off of eBay thinking it may correct the problem and also because I don't like aftermarket HUs. Plugged in and powered up with the OEM HU and still the same problem--sound only from the sub. I've looked at all the wiring from the HU to the amp and from the amp; nothing cut or messed with at all.

My questions:

Is my amp blown? It can't be the HU due to running two back to back with the same problem.

Does the HU bypass amplification for the sub channel? (I know the sub wires go from the amp, but is it merely a pass though from the HU? This would explain why the subs work, but nothing else.)

Has anyone lost sound to just their door speakers and not the sub?

Any idea on how to trouble shoot this? I installed a complete stereo in my jeep 20 years ago w/ an amp etc and it was extremely simple. The LC's audio system seems much more complex. I have no idea where to begin.

The connectors to and from the amp have these white inlaid tabs on the underside, what the hell are these and how do they work? I assume the can be manipulated to release the pins in the connector, but how? I was hoping to disconnect the speaker wires from the connector so I could test each speaker individually for shorts. The last thing I want to do is mangle a $700 wiring harness.

Are you talking about these types of connectors?

They just unclip. If not, take a pic of what you've got.

As for the amp, have you tested voltage coming in and out to the speakers?

Have you taken any of the door panels off? I'd check connections at the amp, the back of the head unit and take one of the door panels off to make sure that the speakers are #1 present and #2 plugged in! If they had an aftermarket HU they might have also had aftermarket speakers that they removed when selling the car.

Speakers are there. Amp connections and HU connections appear unmolested.

The connectors are grey in color. I'm interested in removing the wires from the connector so I can do some trouble shooting w/o taking off the door panels. I'm 99% sure there is no signal going to the speakers anyway.

Instead of getting frustrated, wasting time or damaging something, I would take it to a car audio install place and have them check it out and fix it for you.
