Hello guys,

My name is Ilya and I just purchased 2004 Land Cruiser with Navigation(I guess all of them did in the States). So far I am loving it, just the navigation screen looks like 1990s TV screen. So here is the question, and please don't start with USE BUTTON button and etc, I swear I did. There was an thread last year about it. https://forum.ih8mud.com/100-series-cruisers/379024-2003-aftermarket-stereo-options.html ,but there were no solutions posted. I am coming from Volvospeed.com message board and we get at least 50 new people everyday with dumb questions and everyone is keep telling just search. Any help would be glady appreciated about installing aftermarket system. I am thinking about installing some kenwood system in $600 range, but no one ever confirmed that it is easy to remove stock navigation, and how will it affect climate control system.

Thanks,

Ilya

Does yours have the climate controls included with the touch screen? If so, some one is working on an aftermarket conversion right now. But there isnt a solution yet.

If yours doesnt have the climate controls integrated, then you should be able to put any double din unit you want in.

Sorry, I didnt have factory Nav.... So I am not positive if all factory Nav systems had climate control integrated or not.

I had the same questions about my '04 when I bought it. I can confirm that there are lots of excellent posts on this forum about various solutions, it just depends on what you think the problem is. iPod adapter? more amp power? aux in? etc. I can also confirm you cannot remove the factory navigation screen without losing all the integrated climate functions. So, first figure out what you want to do, and then take another look on the forum using those search terms. Just know you can't simply buy an aftermarket head unit/nav screen and plug it in. My own interest is having an aux in and better sound, so I'm leaning toward a JBL MS-8 and Infinity speakers (but I need to win the lottery first).

There are many great posts and suggestions on this board, no question about that. I just can't figure out what exactly is connected to Climate control system that would interfere with a new system. As I said I am new to this board and didn't have a chance to take everything a part on this car. As all of you know that is how our navigation looks like.

Why can't I just remove top part with a screen and all navigation buttons on the left and just leave bottom part where climate control buttons located. Is navigation and climate control come together as one unit?

As Mxndrnks said, there is a member working on this. The issue is the touch screen controls the HVAC system. If you push the climate button, that shifts the touch screen to the mode that controls the HVAC system in manual mode. They are tightly integrated.

In a nut shell, it's all integrated. The climate control buttons won't operate all features without the head.

Thank you everyone. I just thought that it is possible to rewire it, but I guess too much depends over there. Hopefully someone will come up with an idea how to change climate control so it will look like non navi.
