I have a 1996 FZJ80. I just decided to replace the factory stereo (it worked perfectly except for the LCD being broken) with a new stereo. This is the one I got: https://a.co/d/5Agumlg I also got a Metra 70-1761 wiring harness. After wiring everything up, the audio was super quiet and only the front dash speakers seem to work. Currently the blue power antenna wire is disconnected, which I saw should be done from a Crutchfield page. Even with it the audio is bad. I’ve seen some stuff about bypassing the amp. Is that the problem here?

I bypassed the amp. If you do that, you will need to run speaker wire from the radio to the old amp location.
I also wired in a new sub and stuck ot in the hole where the old sub was.

Hook up the blue wire it will turn the factory amps on
At first I had hooked up the blue wire, but the audio quality was the same. Nothing else changed other than disconnecting that. Like I said, I found a page from Crutchfield about the Metra 70-1761 that another post on the forum mentioned. It had a note that the blue cable should not be connected on pre-1997 Toyotas. I'll find that page again tomorrow.

As promised, here’s the page:

I was able to find the factory amp and unplug it. Now I’m not sure what to do. I can’t find many resources (I can understand) about bypassing the amp so I’m at a loss.

There are two plugs, a 15 pin and a 12 pin. Both have 12 wires running from them. I’ve seen mentions of using a Metra 70-8112 wiring harness to bypass the amp, but I’m not sure how that would work. Any guidance would be much appreciated.

@Voodoo1455
It appears you are trying to wire based on the LX450 threads. Unlike the LX450, the Land Cruiser connectors (three plugs) for the sound system are directly behind the head unit. The amplifier gets removed completely with any wiring at that location untouhed. This is well documented in many threads over the years. I'm not wasting my time looking up the proper Metra harness but it will connect to the two smaller plugs not used by the factory system. The big connector of the three behind the head unit is not use with non Toyota radios.
