I would like to replace my stereo on my 93 FJZ80. It currently has double sized unit with a tape player, radio and non-functioning CD player. I think that this is the stock unit.

I would like to replace it with a double sized CD player, that will also play MP3's and preferably one that includes an AUX input on its face. I don't think I need a tape player anymore. I would consider one that is satellite radio ready, but I am not going to put Satellite Radio in now.

Other than that, I don't need anything fancy.

Does anybody have any recommendations?

I did a search and found out that some OEM units have a seperate amplifier. Would mine be seperate? If so, would I need to replace it with a seperate amp, or can I use an all-in one unit? Or could I use the old amp with a new head unit?

I know seperate amps have more power and better sound, but I doubt that I really need that given my ever advancing age.

Pitts,
The older 80's do not have the seperate amp unless you have the premium sound by pioneer that was offered. I reccommend that you get a single din headunit and use the additional space for a CB, or just buy the filling bracket that will make the empty space look flush and clean. Most any headunit will be mp3 and xm ready. If you want to have bigger sound you should get an external amp along with the headunit. If you just want something that works don't trouble with a new amp.

I run an Alpine 7998 (350) flilp face with all the feature you want and more, but I have an external amp because the headunit doesn't have an internal amp. The double din headunits are not that great now a days although they will due. I'd just rather have more space. I will be mounting my cb under the headunit.

Cheers,
