Hi Guys,

I installed a Kenwood DDX492 using the Scosche TA02B adapter that bypasses the factory amp (two grey plugs). I blow the fuse in the unit when I try to fire it up. Everything is wired according to specifications and the speakers all work fine with the original radio installed.

The factory amp is bypassed but I wired the blue w/ white stripe that remote turns on the factory amp. Do I need to unplug the factory amp at the right kick panel? It appears I have deleted the amp by using the two grey connectors in the Toyota harness (R1A & R3B).

The factory S11A connector was removed from my factory radio & is no longer in use. I didn't locate or disconnect the S12B connector.

Any help is much appreciated.- Ted

as a stereo "guru" - I concur double check to unplug the stock amp.

you are thusly using the 2 harness method - wherein now the blue/white wire should only be a 12v remote source
to your power antennae. if your stock amp is still plugged in - you could be getting a 12v loop+ with no grouding - as
you are no longer using the factory harness.

While I eventually did disconnect my stock amp, I can attest that it does not inhibit operation of the radio if you use the "other" plug of the harness and don't connect the blue wire.
It is a good idea to disconnect it though, and it's behind the glove box door as baselfish has shown above.
Another thing to look at would be the subwoofer in the right rear side panel. My sub was disintegrated, and I just unplugged the harness for it and tied it to the frame with a zip tie. It doesn't keep the radio from working, but it might sound like crap.

again am guessing the blue/white wire is "piggy backed" - so even if you don't use the factory harness - down the line it is connected and
with the factory amp still connected - it causes the short (again no ground) - indeed too all the speakers are (especially the rear sub) are alos connected to the factory amp - by unplugging both harnesses (in and out) you should be able to thusly "Exise" it from the system - no signal to it - no signals from it...

Thank you Mudders! The Blue / White was piggybacked with the Scosche TA02B two plug harness. So it was activating the amps with the power antennae circuit.

I unplugged the front & rear amps and taaadaaaahh! The unit is working great! Thanks again.

Now, what is a good component speaker that will fit in the front door and has 93 or 94db sensitivity?

so the standard "behind" the stock grill replacement is the pioneet tsg1 speakers -
front are drop ins - rear speakers require a wee bit of modding - but if you can install a HU - you can mod the mounts for the back.

only around $30.00 / pair - not great - but for a 100000% stock look and only $30.00 - excellent all around value....

other than that - speakers change so much - pick your poison....
