Ugh. So we had just bought the truck, and I was eagerly doing repairs. One was pulling the stereo (Nakamichi 6 disc), and shipping it off to Texas. Somehow, priority mail took 7 days to get it to them, but they turned it around in a few days, and I went to put it in last night. Another thing off my list, right? Well, ummm, no. Wrong. My wife, when cleaning out the truck, threw the bolts in the bag with teh other stuff for the previous owner (). So now I have a great truck, a repaired stereo, and NO FREAKING BOLTS. AAAAAAIIIIIIIGGGGGGGHHHHHH.

Okay. Can anyone tell me where to start here? One stereo place guessed that they could be 10mm. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I don't imagine that it's an item that I could (or would want to) simply go buy at the dealer, Toyota or otherwise.

Thanks much, guys.

well, welcome to MUD!
you may want to introduce yourself

what bolts are you talking about?

I'm sure somebody will help if they can or you can find info using the search function. Not that most people have these bolts out all the time. You could also measure the diameter of the hole and either buy a few like-size bolts at the hardware store and try sticking them in, or buy a thread measurement set?

Apologies and introduction...

Hello all. Am a new owner of a 2000 LX 470 with white/tan. Very nice truck. Has 129K miles, and drives like a dream. Bought it from the boss, who already had the transmission rebuilt which was > $4K. As soon as I purchased it last week, I had timing belt/water pump/etc done, as well as spark plugs, and the system flushed to remove carbon deposits, etc (all of this work totalled about $950). That should have me in good shape under the hood. I ordered a new antenna mast off of ebay, but when I removed the old one, it unfortunately left most of the nylon cord in the motor. I talked to my mechanic, and after he explained what was necessary to access the motor, I'll just let them do it ($140 or less).

Last major item is the radio. I did a lot of research on the Nakamichi 6 disc problem off ERR3 and it not ejecting discs. I found a company on ebay in Texas that refurbishes them, and assured me that it will not be a frequent repair, that after they are done with it, it should be good for sometime, and they warranty for 6 months. Was going to go with aftermarket touch screen, etc, but that was pretty pricey compared to $210 including shipping both ways. As I noted earlier, I have been very impressed with them, and am anxious to get this thing back in the truck.

While I'm at it, a few questions:
Has anyone been successful removing the 2nd seat cupholder that's in the back of the front center console? Doesn't slide smoothly, so want to remove, clean, lube, etc, and see if I need other parts.

The butterfly clip in the front cupholder is also 100% broken so it doesn't work very effectively at its job. Any tips? I've checked ebay, etc.

Lastly, on the right jump seat in the back, the cable came away from the plastic handle that releases the inside/left side anchors so you can swing the seat up. Currently, I use needle nose pliers to pull a lead ball on the end of a cable, but would love any insight here.

Thanks in advance guys, and will contribute as I can. Am excited about owning the truck and following the board here.

Cheers,
Greg

Greg: Do you have contact info for the firm in TX? I would like to send mine for repair. Thanks,

From the shipping at the bottom of the page:
CALL LENNY OR BILL IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS AT: 972-479-0001 OR 214-868-1294 YOU MAY WAIT UNTELL AFTER REPAIRS ARE COMPLETED BEFORE PAYMENT IS MADE.

Lenny has been great about answering. They warranty for 6 months. I did a lot of research and read a lot of horror stories. Hope this works out as well as it has seemed thus far...

Good luck, and let me know if I can help further (e.g. stereo removal)...

The radio bolts are simply going into spring clip nuts (not threaded nuts). They are something like 10mm x 2cm long. You can't really ruin the system by finding four similarly sized bolts. Although you could probably match these at a hardware store, I would bet the dealer has them for a couple bucks.

Good Luck.

I would bet they're M8x1.25 and maybe 15-20mm long. You'll pay maybe .25 ea at a hardware store and probably $1 ea. at the dealer. And for some reason, every metric bolt I've purchased at generic stores (usually at Lowe's) has a 1mm size head larger than OEM. So what I had been using a 10mm wrench on is now an 11mm head, but the same threads and pitch. PITA for trail repairs.

I had the third seat issue. Used the plier method for a while as well. 3 trips to the dealer later, it was fixed (ext warranty). There were some bent/broken parts in the assembly.

Have been a fan of the site for a while, but this is the first post. I have a '00 LC with 160K MILES- still stock as it's primarily used as a daily commuter. Have owned the truck for 8 years now and don't have any major complaints. As with anything that's used daily, its starting to show it's age here and there.

Would be interested in hearing how the stero repair worked out - granted its an old thread. I'm having the same problem with mine. Would also love some insight on how to get the trim pieces off without damage so the stereo can be removed. So far, I haven't foudna thread with any pics or detailed instructions.

I also have a broken butterfly piece in the front cup-holder. Have superglued the one side that completley broke . . . the other side is hanging on by a thread. Any replacement options?

just pull! the entire fascia just pops off. IIRC, you start at the bottom and work up.

And just fyi, mine is still going strong 4 years later, with no further problems. Easy to remove after you pull the face panel off.
