My buddy just bought a '93 80 and told me to take it for a spin while he's out of town. Dang, first real chance to drive one and these are cool rigs! Ended up near the start of a moderate trail and figured what the hell, took her for a mild wheel. Love the automatic and was surprised at how well the stock suspension cleared stuff. He's not a big internet user so I'll probably be asking for some advice while we get her set-up. Good news is we're only about 40 miles from Slee!

Anyway, I do have a quick question: Is the ABS light supposed to stay on when your in "low"? I did a search...sorta :D

Thanks!

Yes that is normal, when in low the center differential is automatically locked (search to read about pin 7 mod to fix this) when the center is locked the ABS is automatically disabled and the light comes on to alert the driver of this condition

In your case, yes.

When the transfer is shifted into low on an un-modified 80 series the ABS is automaticly disabled and the center differential is locked.

Please excercise caution when operating this vehicle. It is entirely possible that you will start throwing rocks at your 60 and find that you will have an overwhelming urge to aquire an 80 of your own...:D

Yep.

lucky you being so close the Slee. I think I'm moving.

edit... Anybody else got any easy questions? I'm almost at 1000 posts and my mom always told me to never pad my posts.

Thanks! I just caught myself searching for 80's for sale (don't tell the 60)

Here Riley, I'm replying to your post, so you have to reply to mine
(and one more for Mom!)

Envious of you for being that close to Christo! What do you think about that Riley? hehehe

Gee Don, you violated one of the fundamental rules of male friendship. If a guy asks you to take care of his girl friend while he's out of town, a true friend would offer to take her to lunch and maybe to dinner. A movie would be as far as most guys would go with another man's woman.

You, on the other hand, took her to dinner, dancing, drinks, and then porked her, and then took a shower with her. And to top it off, she was a virgin. Some friend you are. :D

Indeed, but what a smart friend he is... :D

He he! I did feel kinda bad as I was motoring up the trail since he's only driven it from the dealership to his house. But then, I figured this new untested vehicle with an unknown past might have some safety issues. As a good friend, I couldn't live with myself if he got hurt just because I was too lazy to give her a full test drive. I don't want a medal or anything, just knowing I did my part and that my buddy will be safe is enough. :D

I did take her to the car wash and remove all the test residue - no reason to have him come home to a bunch of mud and dust just because I did a thorough job. ;)

Destroying the evidence then are you? :flipoff2:

Post #9 edited to add showering with the girl friend.

yes, but imagine the girl had broken down in the woods, mud up to her belly, or lockers unglued or something...
Then what?
1. How do you get her out?
2. How do you explain to your friend when he's back that she's at the hospital?
hmmm...?

It happens more than you realize!!!! :flipoff2:

:sniff: Sometimes I miss that 60...then I go drive the 80!! :flipoff2:

Just leave the 60 at his house with the keys and a note that you washed it and take the 80, he may not notice the trade? He only drove it once right? .... :D

The insanity...

Yep! And sometimes it gets even worse. I miss the 40 and 60, but the two 80 sure are nice!

Yaa! I miss my 60 too. But when I hear the turbo in that 80 whine and kick me in the seat of the pants the 60 is a thing of the past.
