How do I remove the steering wheel. I'm trying to get to the turn signal switch so I can hopefully fix my non working highbeams.

I'm particularly puzzled at getting off the horn cover.

Regards,
-Kevin

I use a hook tool, but a couple of small screwdrivers should work to pry out the badge. The rubber padding is quite flexible. If you're worried about marring the surface, squirt a little silicone lube around the badge using the snorkel.

The nut is a 19mm - search & find different procedures here. I just wiggle & yank - never smacked myself in the nose with the wheel, but then maybe I'm just lucky & my rigs aren't too rusty.

So you don't damage yer nose, leave the nut on a few threads while you yank on the wheel.

Any experiences you'd like to relate? Pics would be even better!

Basically the steps in the FSM are:

(a) Remove the steering wheel pad (no airbag, no worries!)
(b) Remove the set nut
(c) Place matchmarks on the steering wheel and main shaft (so you get it back on right)
(d) Using SST (meaning a puller), remove the steering wheel

Ya got a puller?

You shouldn't need a puller. Just pop off the center, loosen the nut most of the way, wiggle like hell while pulling back, forth, left, right, up, down, should pop right off. If it doesn't do above while someone lightly taps the back of it with a rubber mallet. Getting hit in the nose in a 60 isn't too bad, getting hit in the nose in a 40 really sucks when you then take out the roll bar with the back of your head! :censor: No pix..no camera in the world is that fast!

Ther are three screws in the back of the steering wheel.
Take them out and the whole pad comes off!

you can take the wheel off without a puller:
-Loosen the center nut a few turns so the treads are covered
-By sitting in the car pull your knees firmly against the back of the
steering wheel.
-Set a hard wood or nylon solid rod on the nut and give it a good whack or two with a hammer.
Your wheel will come off. Loosen the nut to take the wheel off.
That's how I did it (always on any car)

Kevin- I don't know what year your 62 is but on my 88, to pull the horn cover just grab it with both hands and give it a quick jerk. It will pop right off leaving you the single bolt holding the steering wheel on. As said elsewhere, wiggle and pull and it will pop off as well.

thanks guys i'll give it a try. Hmm so there are screws holding the pad in place? or i just yank on it and it pulls off... i'll see which one works and get back to you g uys.

Cheers,
-Kevin
