OK, tried multiple leather cleaning options, none of which helped much, so I decided to pull the trigger on one of these (imported from Japan): http://www.ebay.com/itm/221596677883?_trksid=p2059210.m2749.l2648&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT
Looks like it will be 2-3 weeks before it arrives, but i figure it's only a couple hundred bucks so unless it's just terrible quality it's a worthy expense. I'll update once I receive it.

Not bad. I am terrified of air bags so that would be the only reason why I wouldn't do this. hah
crimsonaudio, please post a report when you receive and get that steering wheel installed. Mine is getting to the point where I really need to do something about it too. It's starting to really bug me. The top is all chipping out from sun damage and apparently the po's rings or something.

Wow, that is impressive looking. Was there anything that seemed wonky during the install process or was it an OEM fit? Will you have your OE wheel recovered or are you 100% long-term happy with the replacement?
I see on the ebay link that it says it's for a RHD vehicle. Did you detect any differences at all between OEM and the upgrade? Did the US airbag fit correctly?

Wish they had a 2000 model available. I am done with the top of the steering wheel wearing out.

I was worried about that but once I compared the raw pic to some here where people were having theirs recovered, I felt it was worth he risk - the frame appears to be identical. Everything fit correctly, LOVE the way it looks and feels.

They do have them for the 98-02 models. Not sure what colors are available, but if you check out the sellers store (from the OP link) and then search for 'land cruiser steering 100 series' you'll see what he has.
