My 03 has the 'sticky leather' that cleaning and conditioning haven't helped. I'm not really interested in using a cheap cover, so my options are to have this one recovered (which would mean trying to find a replacement while it's gone) or purchase another one.

I saw this one on eBay - anyone have any experience with these?

Thoughts / ideas appreciated...

Get a good cover. I have Wheelskins on all my cars. They feel great, look great, last forever and get better with age.

x2. There's a "how-to" somewhere in here as well. And pics.

Yah, I've looked at those - not really a fan of the look.

I've also been interested in the replacement Ebay steering wheels from Taiwan. The price is right but fit/finish/quality is unknown. At least with this option, you don't have to send your wheel out and find a replacement or let the truck sit. Please post up results if you do wind up going this route. At least a couple of member have expressed interest recently.

Wheel skins looks cheesy.

I've had nothing but compliments on mine, I'd say it depends on color choice and stitching style.

As for the link crimsonaudio posted, I don't see why it wouldn't work but I don't have experience with it so I can't really comment further.

I think your best bet is to have it recover. :) I am not a fan of wheelskin skin either.

There is a $25 LC100 core steering wheel floating around mud. I believe many Toyota/Lexus steering wheels of the same era will fit for temporary use and if you are okay w/o the airbag.

I just did mine (wheelskins) this afternoon in about an hour to hour and a half. I can say that I am very impressed with the product quality and feel. I do not think you can beat it for 60 bucks, and I dig the wheel being a little thicker (reminds me of my cars). BTW the color/design combo is oak solid on the side with brown perforated on the top and bottom.

Its just sticky? Not worn? Have you tried the Lexol cleaner in the orange bottle? Not the conditioner in the brown bottle.

It's a little worn (bumpy, but not flaking or anything) - the primary problem is stickiness. I'll try the Lexol cleaner, thanks for the tip!

Yeah try cleaning it first. Know that after you clean it with the Lexol cleaner, it is sometimes a little sticky afterwards for a little while until it fully dries. I have used the stuff on leather steering wheels many times and it is always just a little sticky right after cleaning but then it dries and is nice and smooth. I have no idea why yours is sticky now, but its gotta just be dirt/residue. I try to wipe down all my leather with Lexol cleaner every 6 months or so. Let the cleaner fully dry, then apply the conditioner with my bare hands and kinda massage it in (kinky I know), then wipe it down with terry cloth or microfiber. By the way, Walmart sells Lexol for about $3 less than auto parts stores.

Well, neither the Lexol cleaner nor the Pinnacle leather cleaner removed the stickiness. I guess I either have to recover this one or spring for a replacement. Still thinking about one of those on eBay I posted above...

That looks nice, Fit is good? No slop?

No slop at all! Really really tight. You can feel and see the bumps on the back of the steering wheel it is so tight. Just pull hard on that string while installing. Its stronger then you think.

^^^^ Yeah, if you do the wheelskins install well it's as good or better than an OEM leather wheel. not sure where the 'it looks cheesy' comments come from. Perhaps bad installs? I'm pretty particular about this stuff and have used them for years. Only black for me though!

I'll clarify the cheesy comment I made: the wheelskins look cheesy in how they fit around the spokes and how visible the stitching is.

My favorite color in a car is also silver.

It's my opinion - if you like it use it.

I've not seen a single install where it wasn't immediately obvious that someone had wrapped the wheel in a cover. And a vast majority of those had poor stitching and seems that were misaligned.

The leather might be great quality, but they just don't look very good, imo.
