I'm taking a look at replacing this part since the existing one has a crack where the ignition switch mounts and I'm re-keying the whole truck. The part number (45280-60191) listed for my vehicle (89 LHD BJ70 GEN) is discontinued, but this one (45280-60381) looks readily available. From photos they do not appear to have any differences but the associated steering column parts numbers are not the same between all the models. Does anyone know what is different or if this part number works? Toyodiy shows model/year overlap but I'd like to know if there is a meaningful difference that might make this part incompatible on an older model.

Thank you

Edit: these are both non-tilt steering part numbers

I did a little research. 69057-90K11 is your 1989 ignition key lock and might not be identical to 69057-60081- the 1990's lock. this may or may no fit into the bracket housing 1989 45280-60191/ late 1990's 60381 back and forth.

The ignition switch may also change.

I have only swapped turn signal and wiper systems from a 1999 to a 1987 column and that fit correctly.

So you want to buy a complete lock set correct? The old set unavailable right? Hence, why you want to change the column bracket and then locks? The 60381 bracket is $90 UAE-amayama.

I would say just buy the bracket and lockset that matches to have no install issues.

That's pretty much the gist of whats going on except the biggest issue I'm trying to solve is that I broke the housing for the ignition switch on that bracket with my knee. I have zip tied it all together to keep the ignition switch from falling out but I don't like it.

Re. the locks - I have a new lockset already (I think the one I have is this part number 69005-60381-C0) and have changed everything except the ignition key. The obvious difference with the new ignition key is that it doesn't have a "glow" slot like the old one, it might be for a petrol model?? it's listed for both petrol and diesel though. So, I was going to swap the new key core into the old barrel just to have one key for everything and retain the old ignition wiring. I don't know if they fit together though. It is getting to be a headache.

I'm probably just going to do what you suggested and buy it, go from there. Thank you, Rick.

Reminder: ignition cylinders are mated to ignition cylinder/lock brackets. They do not retrofit backwards (IE: buy a new cylinder and hope it fits into an old bracket).

If you get a new ignition cylinder, you have to get a new bracket as well that mates with the key cylinder.

Thanks for the info

I used a new lock set on my 85 Ute and the ignition barrel doesn’t fit, the new one is slightly longer. If you check my build thread you can see the difference. I haven’t tried to figure out how/what I would need to make the new one fit.
The one in your thread looks similar to this. The core is longer and the lock button is in the back, I think swapping cores around wouldn't work. Did your new ignition barrel have a slot for glow?
