Time for a rack. Darn thing only has 280k miles on it but the bushings are shot and it only makes sense to replace it at this point. New OEM are not available. My searching here doesn’t seem to give the remans a lot of love. Cardone seems to have the best aftermarket new racks, and they have a 3 year warranty. Any thoughts or experience?

Where did you look to find out that OEM units are not offered anymore? They should still be available everywhere (dealers, specifically McGeorge as well as all others).

New OEM ones are still available. I purchased a toyota remanned for about half the price though. I've had it for about a year and so far no leaks.

Ok, turns out my local dealer said “back order” for new, but the ones I’ve since found are anywhere from $900 to $1300 after you factor in shipping (because you need to return your core).

If I had any confidence the Toyota reman used Toyota bushings and seals it would be a no brainer. My gut tells me they are just rebranded aftermarket remans, like their reman cv axles, which are absolutely nothing to brag about.

Often times there's no core charge, you get reimbursed after the order. I just went through this with a recent order for CV Axles / FDS.

Here's one example, and a site I've used...free shipping using the coupon, and no tax in TX:

My dealer confirmed that if you order the new rack they don't want your core back. They only want the core back if you order a reman.

On one of my 2000 LXs I used Oreillys brand steering rack. I think it was Import Direct, It has been 6-7 years now with no problems at all.

How much is the Toyota reman?

I paid $506 for a new OEM rack back in March. No core charge on new units. Part # for 2000 MY: 4425060050

Toyota new is $675 (if I can confirm no core charge)
“Toyota” rebuild is $400
Cardone new is $330

That price would be a no brainer, but …

I bought mine for 700 during the Lexus 17.76% off promo. Others bought theirs during the March 25> off promo. Now, $675 is the best you can do.

Hey been out of loop for a bit but I recently lost my power steering. Replaced my power steering pump and lines and can't get rid of the foam. I'm assuming it is my rack. Not sure I have no leaks but still have a whine and foamy fluid. Anyone know what else it could be or the best place to get a new/reman rack.

Did you observe form with the old P/S pump?

I have heard non-OEM pressure lines can cause whine, not sure it also builds foam.
