How much lateral movement on the steering rack is acceptable ? When standing stil , turning a little side to side - Mine moves 2 -3 mm (1/16 -2/16") . I've got the poly bushes . If others have looked at this , it would be nice to if they have any lateral movement at all , or approx how much .Thanks

That seems like way more squish than a poly bushing would allow. Can you be underneath while someone moves it to locate the source of play?

It' probably closer to 2 -2,5 mm . Today - I looked at it from the top -Air filter canister removed . It slides in the the large poly bushing that rappes/ clamps around the rack tube (RH side, LHD) . I haven't looked at the other 2 bushings today ,but of course there has to be some movement there too. And since the rack is held by 3 bushings ,would think that there is some movement (heavy load ,standing still , side to side). The question is how much.

That was a real good video ! Those bushes looked solid . I think mine are Super Pro - What make where those ? I wonder if 2000 models are a little different , -don't remember any metal inner sleeve being removed . Anyway, Did you look to se if the rack has ANY movement after the bush change ?
Well that's very kind of you. There was absolutely nothing on the rack bushes. These were made by Nolathane.

Seems to be a change in the bushings in august/02 .
Yes the design of the steering rack changed. Old ones had a big D shape bushing, and the new one (like my video) only had the 2 simple bushes
